Rover headlight opperation
 

Reading the Rover manual the headlights opperate a dim/dip system where the if the sidelights only are switched on and the ignition is also on the dipped beam is opperated on reduced power through a resistor so the car can't be driven with only the sidelights on.
I can't find any mention of this being a requirement for the S.V.A. but would just like to check that it's definatly not needed (because although I have found the connector on the loom for the resistor I can't find the resistor :icon_confused: . It would also simplify my wiring as well if I could just forget about it.)

ive been told its ok to leave it out, hence ive removed all of the headlamp circuit right back to the switches in my loom and will redo it.
the resistor could well have been left on the car as it was mounted onto a bracket that acted as a headsink, quite a big bit in all.
out of interest ken where are you putting your main fuse/relay box ken?

I am going to mount the main fuse/relay box in the front (boot ?) at the back drivers side. I think Norman has had a bracket made to suit, if not I will make my own.
As to the dim-dip thing I am not sure if it is a requirement of the Road vehicle lighting regulations 1989. Think I will ask the question on a few more kit car forums and see what others have or have not got through the S.V.A.

My libra had that resister too but I just disconnected it. I think it is just a way of having an additional sidelight by using the dipped light with reduced voltage, I see no reason to keep it if you have a seperate sidelight..

Rang the SVA and they said the dim/dip requirement was a UK only rule in the mid 90's which has since been superceded by Euro legislation - so dim/dip can be thrown in the bin which makes the wiring a lot simpler.
