I'm leaving it unpainted. I really like the Peter Giacobbi car, the raw, rough bodywork gives it a unique character. Whilst the body on my car is straight in comparison, I'm going to create a similar overall look.
|
Hooray, you will not regret it, and can always paint it later if you cannot live with it.
|
Back in the day when I raced single seaters I went under No 12 in my club. So I'll go with faded roundels with my old number . The Scuderia shields turned up today, I'll need to tone them down a bit before they are fitted. I could make a mask from them and paint them on faintly to match the roundels ?

Please can we see more photos as they say more than words!
Thanks keith |
Yeh, no problem. I'm onto finishing touches over next week or so. I'll get some video posted on youtube soon as well.

Lucky – I was secretly hoping you would leave the car unpainted.
As the raw aluminium finish gives your car such a cool original old racing car look. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...6&d=1551990087 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...8&d=1551996358 The original Ebay advert appeared to be just a bunch of old parts lying around. So hats off to your vision to turn them into something really special. Good luck, Paul. :) |

Triumph only needed a valet then and some detailing!! LOL.
The Testarossa looks great in the garage, however I am looking forward to pictures taken outside basking in some lovely spring sunshine. |
Progress has slowed a little as my father has recently passed away. A shame as he was keen to see the car on the road and was always supportive of my projects. He was a bit of a car enthusiast back in the day and owned all sorts of what are now very interesting and highly prized collectable cars.
I still hope to have the car complete and on the road for the Bromyard Speed Festival on the 7th of April. |
Lucky - Sorry to hear about your dad. :icon_sad:
By chance, I was speaking to one of my best mates yesterday as his dad has just died too. Take care, Paul. |
LLM, I am sorry to hear of your loss. Keeping busy can be therapeutic, but remember not to push yourself too hard. The car will be just as fantastic in May as it will be in April.
|
Sorry to learn about your Dad. Keep on keeping on!
|
Thanks for all the kind messages regarding my Dad.
Good news now, a few little finishing jobs to complete, the MOT is booked in for later in the week, then on the road !! |

99.9 % there now, here are a few photo's taken today. Ready for the MOT later this week. There are a couple of little jobs to do and I'm waiting on some springs for the bonnet and boot catches. I want to tweak the bonnet a little too to improve the gaps and general fit. I did buy a pre formed bonnet blister / bulge but when it arrived it was only half the length I was expecting so I need to re visit that later ! I decided against the roundels, I did try out one on the door but it didn't look as good as I thought it might so its just going to be ali all over !
If you buy Octane magazine later this week you might see an advert for my car for sale in the classifieds. I'm just testing the water so to speak but I think it will attract a fair bit of interest ! |
Looking great! good luck with the MOT
|
Totally impressive! Well done.
|
You are not selling it, are you?
|
The ad is indeed in Octane and the pic is in monochrome, which is a nice touch. I reckon that's a fair price and you'll get some interest. The Octane ad for my Spyder (at £24k) produced four genuine overseas buyers who were all disappointed that it had already gone by the time they got their copies and contacted me.
Good luck, it looks fantastic and deserves to achieve a strong price if you do sell it. |
Lucky - Good luck for the MOT.
Would love to see the tester's face when you roll in. |
The garage I use is run by an Italian family, the father and two brothers ! They know I'm bringing in a Ferrari replica but that's all, they'll be expecting an old MR2 or something like that!
Mister Towed, I did the mods to the rear indicators that you highlighted, I think I'm ready now. I want to use the car a little before I let it go, I'll be surprised if it goes right away. |
Yep, enjoy it while you can but don't be surprised if a buyer comes along and bites your arm off.
After all, how many are on the market worldwide right now and how much would it cost to have an all alloy replica built? Mine took about a week to attract its first serious offers from the ebay classified, which peaked at about £5.5k less than the asking price. Two European dealers were also negotiating offers around the £20k mark when I was offered the asking price less the cost of transporting it, which I figured was a pretty acceptable offer. A week after I waved goodbye to my Spyder, the ad appeared in Octane. Over the next two months I received quite a lot of interest from overseas buyers, at least four of whom were absolutely gutted that it had sold already when they made contact. I was lucky in that I didn't need to sell it and loved it so much that I was perfectly happy to turn down offers and keep on driving it indefinitely. I'm guessing that you might just be in the same barchetta. Good luck! |
Sorry to hear about dad
Selling!!! Should have moulded off it and gone into business :-) Well your looks the real deal would definately command a good price Immensely better than this example https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1957-Repl...a-662a32fda8c3 |
I've seen that car before. I don't know why you would go to such lengths to create such a poor replica. There has obviously been lots of work put into it but it went wrong somewhere along the line !
It wasn't my first thought to advertise my car so soon but we are coming upto the spring time and it just made sense to test the water to see if there was interest. It also occurred to me that I could pay the mortgage off 10 years early and have change left over for my next project. I have always been into this hobby for the building / creating side rather than the long term ownership. We will see what happens... I'm not familiar with Octane Magazine, I only went to them because I remembered you had a good response with your ad Mister Towed. It will also be in the next issue of Classic & Sports Car. |
Easy answer.
The person acquired the FRP body that was hanging on the wall of another shop (cut in half). He knew it was already widened by 6 inches and was originally set up for a Corvette chassis. He put the body together and made some molds, put it on the Corvette and there you go. I actually made the part to fit the Cobra windscreen. Same guy that messed up my Tribute 250 SWB I had shipped to the USA. |
No offence Molleur, like I said there is obviously a lot of work gone into it.
When I started my TR project I had several suggestions about chassis options but most were too wide or too long to fit the body onto. The number one reason I went with the 7 style chassis was that it shared the same wheel base and track of the TR so I could retain the body and its proportions without modification. The Giordanengo body is a very close to the original Ferrari dimensions , there was no way I would compromise that just to suit a chassis. |

He bought this just to put together and resell. Not even close to the original. No worries, I can not be offended. |
That looks the dogs. Fantastic work and if it goes for what you asking for then someone else has a bargain. GLWTS or if not enjoy the fruits of your labour for a while.
Dave |
MOT in the morning, I think its ready, touch wood !
|
Good luck with the MOT.
|
MOT passed !!
No problems at all, I asked the inspector to do a thorough job as well. They were quite intrigued at the garage, spent a good 20 minutes talking about the car and its history. |
Congratulations.
Hope the sun is shining where you are today. Enjoy, Paul. :) |
Congratulations!
|
Well done that's a big step taken now in joy !!!!
|
Wow, good news. I suspect you're going to get compliments and questions everywhere you go in it.
