Ferrari lose rights to GTO shape for vehicles in court case

A recent court case has seen Ferraris attempt at trade marking the GTO shape overturned. They have retained the rights for toys but crucially not vehicles...

Open season on GTO replicas then!

I saw this on FB last week it is indeed good news but Ferrari have very deep pockets so there is every chance they will try again to block replicas. I dont think anything will happen overnight it will take couple of years and someone been brave enough to take the first step.lets hope it also happens with the swb and 275

They might have deep pockets but to over turn legal rulings can take years like you say with no guarantee of success and cost millions. They lost the Testarossa trademark to a toy manufacturer a year or two back.
The ruling will likely set a precedent with regard to their other older models that they won't make again.

It will be interesting to see if Ferrari do appeal the ruling seeing as they are using exactly the same "use it or lose it" ruling in a case over the Purosangue name of their new SUV for next year which was previously registered by a charity in 2013

Ferrari SUV?

Isn't that a bit like Speedo making baggy board shorts?

Remember when Chrysler had to stop using the name Viper in the UK thanks to a little known kit car company, Brightwheel, already having the rights for their "Viper" Cobra replica !

I seem to remember Ford having to stump up a good few grand to use 'Sierra' which Tim Dutton had bagged.

Lovely, I suspect it'll take more than £50k to get the keys, though.

It will be a brave man who buys that,

Registered as a Ferrari when it is clearly a rebodied Datsun.

It has lost its original engine, gearbox, and has had the chassis legs cut out to fit the engine and front suspension.

ID taken from the engine I would guess, could be a world of pain for the new owner.
