Ahaaa 3 weeks it'll soon pass
Hi skyweber,
Can I be first to welcome you to this unique little club of 5EXi builders, I'm Trev, building a turbo, hoping for SVA very soon. You will get to know many new friends as we all slave away to build our own dream machines. Good luck with your stripping and hope all goes smoothly when you pick up the kit. My mate Merlinman (Ian) is due to pick up his soon too, so you may see him down at sunny Crediton. Don't forget, the car is still very new and us 'old hands' are always willing to guide you. Regards to all builders |
Welcome....
I'm finally picking my kit up next monday after ordering it in January, I've been held up with personal and work problems but I'm now ready to go and start building, Terry's been great and really understanding which I think shows what sort of company Marlin are. I just need to finish stripping the my BRM donor before I can really get going though... |
Hope you are all creating websites
Or taking loads of photo's.
I was, but lost the lot to a computer virus. But still remember the good points, getting the engine in, a true rolling chassis, ahhhhhhhhhh wiring and of course the first time the engine runs in the exi. I still have that video clip as it was taken by a friend in November 2004 and he kept back up copies. You guys certainly have loads to look forward to and a few heartaches too. Any regrets, only one, Mark should have come up with this car when I was a lot younger. The look that's in my son's eyes!!!!!!!!!! Trev |

Does any of you guys need the build trolley's as mine need to go back. I work in the Hertford area so can arrange a meet.

Thanks guys i reckon i will need as much help as i can get. For starters putting the floor panels on what size of rivnuts do i need?Drill bit size?
Yours Skyweber. |
I got advise from Mark and I bought some rivnuts and rivets off Mark. The rivets was a 4.8mm drill. You will need to get some from somewhere like screwfix as the local DIY stores don't seem to have them (either 4.5 or 5mm.)
Rivnuts depending on size. I measure the drills up agaist the rivnuts and it worked out at 9 or 9.5mm drills. Hope that helps. |
Thanks limpabit, I got my donor 216 coupe 14000 miles,£150 bargain! But i dont have a key or immobiliser button ,will this come to big headaches when it comes to wiring. Can i get one from a rover dealer?
|
What year was your coupe? Is it K series or honda engine?
|
It,s a 97 1600 k series.
|
hmm not sure. I think as long a you have the matching 5AS unit and ECU you should be ok and fit an aftermarker alarm/immobiliser. I think this has been asked before on www.rovertech.net/forum. Join and have a little search.
|
Cheer,s my man.
|
immobiliser
If you do not have the remote you will need to have a new one coded in to existing system, i would advise doing to donor before stripping to prove it codes in successfully. The other option is have the ecu sent to a specialist and remove immobiliser function. Good luck with the build. Brian.
