Heard engine start for first time today.

Hi guys.

For those that don't know, I started this project with a Rover training engine. And heard her start for the first today. But there's a problem. The car would not spark when turning the key to start. But would if ignition was on and start was started using screw driver n solenoid on starter.

This is a weird one.

Think maybe faulty relay box.

same problem

Did not try to sort it out. The ecu did not like that the power switched of between ignition on and crank. So just put in a start button in, which was always my plan anyway

all the best

Ah great stuff Tony. I've been scratching my head thinking what have I done wrong. Did you run the starter button straight to the starter solenoid using the Marlin supplied White wire or run a thicker cable between the button and solenoid?

hi

connecting a start button direct to the starter solenoid is not to be recomended as the amps will be quite high. Did you have the same problem as me. when you started tthe engine by the starter solenoid did the starter continued to run after the ignition was switched of. I ended up wiring in two more relays one to energise the starting cycle in the ecu and the other to switch the starter solenoid which would isolate the starter when the starter button was released.

starter wiring

John it sounds like your ignition feed from switch is wrong, the accessory feed connection loses it's connection during cranking which is why car radio switches off momentarily during cranking. If you test your switch output during cranking you should be able to transfer the connection to the one that stays live whilst cranking. The push button starter will also work if you prefer, I would run it through a relay to protect your switch.
Good luck mate, does the motor sound gooooooooood. Brian.

Make perfect sense Brian. Can't wait to get home tonight to try it.

The engine sounded good. Did not have any pipe for ECU to inlet and the fact the fuel pump was controlled by jump leads so was over fuelling. But sounded great. Even had flame shots out of exhaust!

John

You've used an incorrect wire at the ignition. There is one that has voltage out during cranking...easy fix mate!

well done btw...
