Options for meet up

As Stoneleigh was bit of a wash out I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for meets and trips? Some ideas for discussion.... 7th June - London-Brighton Kit Car run - good fun but at £85 at bit expensive (which you have to pay up front) and quite a long trip if you don't have a hood and the weathers bad? 27th June - Goodwood Breakfast Club - Soft Top Sunday - am I being a bit pretentious? There is bound to be some real exotic cars, but I reckon we could put on a good display if we had 3/4 cars all parked together. It doesn't seem to cost anything (apart from buying posh breakfast) but you do have to register and it would be an early start. 18th July - Uxbridge Autoshow - my local car show. All kinds of interesting auto's American, kits, lots of old cars and trucks. I'll be there trying to win a prize! 22nd August - ACE Cafe - Kit car day- great day but not many cars so we could get lots more cars there this year. Maybe a convoy through London afterwards could be a laugh? Any other ideas? ...peter P.S. you can Google any of these for more details. |

Goodwood, Uxbridge and ACE are possible candidates for me.
|
Uxbridge or Goodwood sounds good :)
|
I don't know anything much about this but looks like a good show to go to?
http://www.claphamclassicevents.co.u...rnationals.htm Its on the 4th July and... It says.... "The UK Roadster Nationals are open to all convertible and open top cars including Veteran, Classic, Custom, Americans and Hot Rods manufactured before 1980. Replica vehicles manufactured in a pre 1980 style are also welcome. " so i think a Sportster should qualify? Any of you been before? |
I'll be running up mountains in the Lake District that weekend.
|
Not been before but as it is only a few miles from me I would go if anyone else is.

I'm off to Snetterton on the 20th for the production BMW race (my mate from work runs his e30 in the series). They also have the Annual Lotus Festival on at the same time:
Snetterton will be celebrating one of Britain's most iconic names on Sunday 20 June when it hosts the spectacular Classic Team Lotus Festival - on the eve of the 500th Grand Prix for the Lotus marque. The current Lotus F1 team will be appearing with drivers Jarno Trulli, Heikki Kovalainen and Fairuz Fauzy, whilst the squad's 2010 car will make its first UK public appearance. Plus, Classic Team Lotus will bring together every Lotus Grand Prix car raced between 1958 and 1994 - a feat never achieved before - for displays and high speed circuit demonstrations. Worth it for the bold bit on it's own IMHO. :) Anybody else fancy it? |
Hmmm. A bit expensive compared to the kit car show the same weekend - but.... much more interesting.
I shall think about it. Robin |
Going to the Luton Festival of Transport this Sunday http://www.cvpg.co.uk . Normally attracts about 1500 vehicles of all shapes and sizes. I went last year and it was well attended. If you visit the web site ignore the bit about pre 1980 vehicles only. I just checked and to quote "they welcome kit cars".

I think i'm going to too busy to make Goodwood breakfast this weekend, but still thinking about the Roadster show at Bedford.
If anyone is thinking of coming to my local Auto show at Uxbridge you need to register by the 12th July . Details here.... http://www.uxbridge-autoshow.com/individual.htm Or you can turn up on the day and pay £10 instead of £5 entarnce fee.Its run by the Rotary Club for charity. |
Damn. Going to be doing a running race that day.

Weather is looking good for Sunday so, assuming it doesn't change I will be going to the Bedford show. I will probably also go to the Uxbridge show - its about time that I went a bit further afield...
Anyone else going? Robin |

Now I just need too find the time to give the car a polish.....(I never had that problem when it wasn't painted!) |
Change of plans, I won't be at the Bedford show tommorow afterall.
My pre-MOT check on my Rover revealed paper thin brake pads on the back so that's my Sunday morning sorted! ...peter |
You didn't miss very much. It wasn't very well attended and it was very dusty! The access road was also very poor - both front wings had come loose by the time I got to the actual venue! I probably won't go again.
However there were a few intesting cars including a very nice pre-war supercharged MG K3... :eusa_drool: Robin |

Also, bad news that your wings have come loose again. Has anyone got pictures of that black Sportster at Stoneleigh? (It's the one with the funny half hard top) From a very small picture i've seen it looks like the guy has fixed his wings to the chassis  Maybe Mike has some pictures as I know he was there with his camera on Sunday when we arrived? ...peter |

Sorry I do not have any photos of the Black Sportster. I think it was one of the earlier Ford based Sportsters, so it probably wouldn't help anyway? Mike |

I went to the Classics on the Common event yesterday. Great event if you are also into your classic cars, exotics etc. - just about anything on 2, 3 or 4 wheels. Considering it is run as a charity event by the local Round Table it has to be one of the best events I have been to.
http://www.classicsonthecommon.com/ OK - so its not an option for meeting up this year as it has already gone, but perhaps next year? Robin |
Hi Chaps
I'm going to this (weather premitting) http://www.pooleview.co.uk/CarQuay.htm Wander up and down the sea front, look at other cars and have a bag of chips. |

Hi Robin, It was good to meet you at Classics on the Common and your car looked great. I hope you made it back ok before the evening showers ?! As you know, Classics on the Common is a great event and has a really good range of cars. It's very popular and you need to book plenty of time in advance to avoid disappointment. I'm planning on attending next year too. Regards Simon |

Not all bad though - I followed the lead of the three wheeler in front of me and sat there in the car with my large brolly up. I too will be returning next year. I think I'll get there a little earlier though - there were so many cars I didn't get time to look at them all. Perhaps we could get together a small Marlin contingent next year.... Robin |

Apologies if anyone was planning to come to this event. ...peter |
Is anyone going to the Kit Car show at Stafford w/e 18/19 September. I missed Stonleigh this year as I was still putting the car back together after painting so I thought I might go to this one instead. Has anyone else been before - if so what is it like? (IE is it worth going!)
Cheers Robin |

I went once many years ago before I had even chosen the Marlin and trying to make up my mind which cars I liked. (So probably in ~2002!) Or short answer - no idea! ...peter |
The Stafford show was reborn in (I think) 2008 and is now the pet cause of Den Tanner (of Pilgrim). The show is well written up in Kit Car magazine but then it would be as Den is also Publisher of the magazine. Having said all that, it looks to have a good following and I have considered the trip. However, Exeter is closer for me so I will probably go there in November.
|
Exeter has changed dates this year to 23/24 October.
|
Thanks Alfie. Not much to see in November then so October it is. I'm afraid I did not check before writing.
|
I had hoped to have car on the road for this show but I don't think it will happen now. I will still be going though.
|
Sorry Robin, I ignored your original question. I have never been to Stafford, so know nothing about it.
|
I'll be at my local car show next Sunday...
http://www.uxbridge-autoshow.com/ and also, hopefully, at the Ace Cafe.... http://www.ace-cafe-london.com/defau...00&m=08&y=2011 on Saturday 20th August....... come and say hello if anyone else attends.. ...peter |
For the Uxbridge show is it just a case of turning up on the day - or do you have to book in advance?
Robin |
Hi Robin,
it's too late to register but the website says.... Closing date for entrants - Monday July 11th 2011. No passes will be sent to entrants whose entry forms are received after Monday July 11th 2011. Entrants arriving on the day without passes will be charged £10 per car inclusive of occupants. For administrative reasons, we regret that no entries in the Concours sections can be accepted after Monday July 11th 2011. So I think you can just turn up... ...peter |
