The windscreen rake is just one of the problems I have been wrestling with on my 275GTB/Z3 project (http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...?t=5207&page=4). Basically, the Z3 is a different shape - shorter nose, longer doors, higher side window (and different shape), more room between the door and the rear wheel, wider roof, bigger boot lid ... As the old saying has it "If I were going there I wouldn't start from here". Tribute have done an amazing job of producing a nicely cohesive design and on my own I can not match their skill or speed of working but "I have started so I will continue".

Hi George.
I hope your health/memory are continuing to improve. As we discussed before the journey for you is as important as the finished project, so keep on enjoying it at your own pace.
Regards Chris

I do love seeing you guys "stiching" a body shell together.

Keep up the great work, Paul. :)

Egdik 2nd October 2015 18:44

Good to see things lining up as a whole - and finished with a Tiger's tail bumper.

275NART 2nd October 2015 19:05

Very cool! The tall tail reminds me of the competizione 275 body. What are the bumpers off of?

Egdik 2nd October 2015 20:03

The bumpers are stainless and made for a 275GTB long nose. 3 part rear.

Car is looking mighty fine and I do like those bumpers. Do you have a link to the web page for them?

AcC8braman 3rd October 2015 06:57

I can't make my mind up now if I want the SWB or the GTB!!!

Kit 275GTB 3rd October 2015 08:40

Amazing Craftsmanship!

It is amazing to see that body coming together from a patchwork quilt of pieces. What a "tribute" to their craftsmanship!
My own approach is different because of my fortunate starting position, as the old joke says, "If I were going there, I wouldn't start from here." I have only had to cut panels to fit (with one or two patches) and find places to hang them on the Z3.

Egdik 3rd October 2015 09:50

Bumpers

Hi Towed, here is a link to the Harrington website for GTB2 long nose bumpers. Further research may also be done on various car Club websites.

The bumpers are 'hand beaten' which gives a certain patina to the reflective surface. There is a little 'twist' along the rear cross section, which should disappear when they are tightened in place. The aim is to make the car look properly 'dressed'

Danny_HUFC 3rd October 2015 12:01

I hope to see a few of these bumpers fitted to SWBs, at that price you cant go wrong

Lucky@LeMans 3rd October 2015 17:31

I thought £1415 was quite a lot for some bling. I suppose to complete the car they will add to the finished look !

Me too! That's more than I have in my donor car, v12, and wire wheels!

Maybe Tribute could take molds from Kidge's and make some fiberglass bumpers- only if he allows of course! They could then be spray-chromed or wrapped.

Jaguartvr 3rd October 2015 18:37

A friend had to fit a set of Harrington bumpers to a Dino, he got them to fit............eventually. He was very upset about how long it took to fit them and even then he wasn't 100% happy.
I keep looking at them for my MK2 jag but if they don't fit I can't see how you could adjust them as they are so large and heavy. Expensive if they don't fit, some people have had success others have hated them, lots of comments on various forums if ou hunt.

Danny_HUFC 4th October 2015 10:41

I stand correct on my last input, i thought they where £141.50! Maybe a bit pricey for most but im sure chris will take a mould. It would be rude not too!

Guys is this the correct 275?

275NART 4th October 2015 11:58

That is the more popular 67-68 "long nose" gtb/4 cam car. The 65-66 "short nose" lacks the hood bulge, the grill opening is more square, and the bumpers sit lower on the nose.

Progress

More progress on the buck for Kidge's car. I realised that the top of the SWB rear wings were much flatter than the 275's, so the they were reprofiled using a strip of alloy as a guide followed by lashings of filler.

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps43d1kj7b.jpg

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...psqwzh8cbb.jpg

Once the ends of the spoiler had been reprofiled the centre section on the boot lid could be formed.

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2799th07.jpg

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...psxydboga1.jpg

B pillar vents starting to be formed.

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...psfm33rhlp.jpg

Rear wheel arch lips removed

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...psy904yewx.jpg

Rear end shape nearly there, just boot opening shape to be finalised before everything is smoothed out for moulding.

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...pslnvcabmb.jpg

Rear bumper hung on temporary brackets to check fit against body, some work still to do. These obviously aren't the rear lights that Kidge will be using, I was just having a ponder........

Haven't been on here for a while as starting to look seriously for donor now prices are dropping to sensible levels for winter but had to log in for this to say, wow that is looking absolutely incredible - just so right. Fantastic work. (and love the use of Farina F rather than the 'other' F)

Car photographer 8th November 2015 20:59

It's looking amazing!!

Egdik 12th November 2015 17:36

Art

I love the artist's palette about these photos, which show Chris's creative abilities.

Could it be the angle of the camera that makes the haunches more Lopez than Loren ?

Kit 275GTB 13th November 2015 07:40

Tribute to skills

That is amazing! How do they do it? It is fascinating to see that highly characteristic shape emerging from something (two somethings?) rather different. They are having to face the same compromises as I am to fit a fairly authentic 275 shape on to a modern chassis which has a very different layout but I have a different starting point which changes the skills required from being an artist to a mere cut and shut mechanic.
If anyone doubted it before, this illustrates the work that Scaglietti and the F racing department did to transform the 250 into the 275 shape.

zagmad 21st November 2015 17:23

Looking at the back end it has hints of db 6 .

Kit 275GTB 22nd November 2015 08:57

I disagree. I don't know where they got their moulds from, but having started from genuine 275GTB moulds myself (see the first page of my 275/Z3 thread) I think the tail looks pretty good.

Its that time of year so I have a vid for inspiration

I have followed this build seeing the car in the flesh numerous times at different stages.
It looks fantastic and will look the part on the road.

Nice. :)

Ending the year at Snetterton: Family friendly day out, also had a session the the wife's Lexus Rx400 - great fun. Z3 photo by son Anthony.

The rear window and boot with lights do have a hint of DB6, but the wings are quite different.

Nice video.

Also watched Alain de Cadenet about Ferraris in the 'victory by design' DvD, his choice was a GTB.

Looking forward to progress in 2016

Happy New Year to Chris & Dan

Tribute Automotive 1st January 2016 18:32

Your wheels and spinners look good in action Kidge.

More filling and sanding on the 275 buck when we are back in the workshop on 4th.

A Happy New Year to you and your family.

Roadster 13th January 2016 16:47

Happy new year Kidge
I've seen the 275 and she's a beauty.

I found this on youtube - lots of details you could add and I thought the vid would get you excited for your finished car

Detailed review of the 275GTB/4

Thanks for that ref but I think a better one is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dmSaZ6mw-c
If you want accurate details and a review by an owner rather than a sales pitch by Bonhams.
One detail I did not know is that they had to change the Vee angle of the engine from 60 degrees to 54 on the 4 cam in order to get it under the bonnet. I thought the slight bulge was enough.
A classic error that the owner repeated, however, was that the 275 was designed by PininFarina. Yes the 250 was designed by him (he was a great friend of Enzo Ferrari) but it it was the racing department under Scaglietti across the road at Modena who made all the changes to the 250 design to reduce drag and high speed lift. Sadly, by the time the car was ready, the rear engined opposition was the new kid on the block and the 275 did not gain the racing success and aura of it's 250 predecessor.

Roadster 14th January 2016 08:38

I agree Kit I just thought the competition body looks more like Chris's design.

They do look the part on the track

Encore

Thanks for the video links and comments.

Here is another Ferrari one, from the 2014 Annual 23rd Cavalino Classic Concorso D'Eleganza Classiche: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDk4IRxsAao

It is in a sort of chronological order and The GTBs start at about 12.20mins. Music; no commentary.

Triumph Special 23rd January 2016 17:41
