Bonnet Rams
On the 250 I fitted some uprated bonnet rams, these lasted a year but slowly stopped supporting the bonnet. If you pump the bonnet up and down it will hold. SCS did send me a replacement set FOC and these are still holding up.
On the boot I have an MGB style stay, mechanical, lift the boot it stays open, lift it a little more and you can then close it. Now on the Daytona I have just acquired, it has mix of 2 in 1. The bonnet struts are hydraulic, but to close the bonnet you have to lift it a little first and then it will release. The bonnet is very heavy and rams on their own wouldn't hold it up, hence the mechanical part. Question is, has anyone come across a similar type of ram and if so any Idea where I might get some for the 250? |
Plus one on the rams interest jag. I am certainly going to need something heavy duty for the front end clam.
I’ll start looking and see if I can track something down. Any markings/names or part numbers on yours to start us off? Cheers. |
Sorry but no names or markings on the bonnet rams.
Someone must know a supplier. |
Monroe ML5705 Gas Spring, bonnet - 1 piece
I bought 2 of these from Amazon for my Formosa bonnet however with both on they were too powerful and nearly impossible to to open the bonnet so took one of and its perfect, just the right amount of resistance. no need for a bonnet catch as I have installed it so that in the closed position it is pushing the bonnet towards the bulk head. obviously I have bonnet latches on the sides but with them undone the ram keeps the bonnet firmly in place |
According to Amazon Munroe ML5705
Eject Force [N]: 290 The SGS rams were specced as 1200nm I don't know if they are using the same scale. |

Gents,
There are adjustable variants I believe which can be set between 50N to 700N force?? Steve. |
Try here, you can buy adjustable so you can set the tension yourself.
www.sgs-engineering.com I need some for the clam hinges on the mrs200, i just need to weigh the clam so i can sort the pressure out on them. they are very helpful when you ring them |
I bought SGS rams but not had them on long enough to comment about longevity. They certainly ‘throw’ my Kobra bonnet up.
Dave Their low profile 2 tonne jack is very nice kit too btw |
SGS Gas struts..
https://youtu.be/dIWPvAgkuas Remember the bonnet on the Z300S is longer than any other car in creation an I have a welded steel grill at the very front that is heavy enough to have its own gravitational field. If the struts 'almost' hold mine up they will be fine for anyone else...
