Building a Vortex
 

I am considering buying a Vortex and would appreciate some advice.

I am looking to build a car that will be in daily use and needs to be reliable. It also needs to be properly weather proof with normal luxuries like comfy seats, power steering and maybe an auto box (if the engine suits an auto).

I don't need shattering performance but it has to be able to see off anything with a GTI badge.

The choice of engines for these cars seems a little restrictive as I don't want the complexity of a turbo and the Rover 2.7 doesn't seem like much of a powerhouse.

How fast is a Vortex with a 2.7? Does anyone know how much an auto would hamper performance?

Does anyone use their car very regularly and how does it fare? Does it leak? Does it run reliably? I will be building this with mostly new parts so dont expect major mechanical problems but how about the twiddly bits?

Any help appreciated.

Sorry for a delay replying to you, only just checked the forum.

There are quite a few engines to choose from now, work is underway to prototype for the new Ford Ecoboost engine too.
If you want an Auto, the Honda route may be your easiest choice, there are quite a few Auto Honda powered cars around, performance is around 6.5 seconds to 60.

Several people have used their cars regularly, a friend of mine did every day for work, and he didn't really have any major issues with it, just a few niggles to sort like squeaking trim etc.. once those were sorted all was good.

All mod cons are available, power steering, comfy seats, air con, tyre pressure sensors etc...

Just to follow up the comment from Eddy P, I have the Honda Auto version and I drive mine across France, Germany and into the Czech Republic. On the open road she is pure adrenalin and yet in town very relaxing to drive. My only word of caution is to reinforce the rear engine mount to support the heavy Auto gearbox. Also get seats that tip forward. Good luck
