reliant , diesel

hi all,
I have asked the same question on a reliant site no joy as yet .
I am thinking of getting a scimitar but i would like to have it as my main car ,and i would like to fit a diesel engine .
I believe the gearbox is a type 9 ford, can anyone point me in the right direction regarding suitable engines that might fit the scimitar
I hoping a sierra 2.0 might fit , or engine and gearbox
thanks in advance , Dirk

Dirk if you jump on the Sporting Reliant's website which is an excellent site managed by Dave Poole you will find a diesel Scimmie there which should help you. BTW the Type '9' 5 speed was only used in Middlebridges and all others got the Type 'E' 4 speed with/without overdrive.. See my other post about Cologne/Essex engine and gearbox. Have to say that with the cost of derv/petrol being almost the same nowadays the fact that your scimmie will be devalued and you won't save much but spend loads and just give you problems that you don't really want such as mountings, fuel tank, wiring and so on. I ran a 6a as a daily for 5 years before coming to deepest China and I think a diesel will spoil the enjoyment - just keep the Essex/Cologne in good tune or get a cheaper car as a run-a-round!

I would be thinking of an LPG conversion before changing the car to a diesel.
