Need help identifying Daytona kit
 

Trying to work out what kit this is, it is registered as a Jaguar XJS 5.3. From the gap between the rear of the door and ihefront of the rear wheel arch I can tell it isn't a Southern Roadcraft but that is it.

Last on the road in 1993 so not sure if it will be viable to put back on the road. I presume that as it is registered as a Jaguar XJS it will have to go through a SVA check or is there a way around it as it has been on the road in its present form previously.

Is it possible it's a southern roadcraft body stretched to fit the xjs wheelbase- rather than a custom chasssis like most of the cars?

I hope not, can't imagine there would be a lot left of the original metal. It has been stored in a metal shipping container which I would image would suffer from condensation.
The windscreen rake looks different from an XJS but it is quite a few years since I owned one.

It does look like a tr7 windshield as the southern roadcraft cars had. Maybe a modified mcburnie body from the US with the tr7 windshield and vent windows added.

Robin Hood would be my first guess. Is it actually based on an XJS or just registered as an XJS as I know RH did convert some Jaguars but it could also just be lazy registration and based on the donor Jag.

The seller doesn't know much about it as he is just storing it for a friend but he has stored it for many years.He did say that one of the wheel arches was rusty so it may well be on an XJS tub.
The DVLA has it listed as a Jaguar XJS on the V5.

IF it is based on an XJS chassis then you would be on a bit of a sticky wicket.

I seem to recall the chassis was modified so IVA would be needed. Even with no chassis mods you would somehow have to prove that it was an XJS in a previous life and now rebodied. Normally achieved with pictures of the original car on the road with number plates on (you might get lucky if the seller has some of these)

Else it could be a good 'donor' for your own rebody if the price is right.

Money pit for sure but that could be negated to some extent by the price you negotiate for the car as it is.

Main points for IVA I would have thought would be the radius tests in the frontal area and dash. The appropriate markings on the glass to be correct and it looks like those wheels are protruding so would need sorting. Emissions and proving provenance of the donor and engine.

I can't recall a Daytona going through an IVA test lately (I'm a member of the Daytona Replica OC) but would have thought the overall design is fairly IVA compliant, it is just getting the detail right.

Turns out to be a no go.
Body grafted onto an XJS tub. Main tub looks as if it has been stored underwater of 30 years. Shame, still looking.

Be careful with any of the Robin Hood conversions. They used all sorts of donors including; Rover SD1, Triumph Tr7, Jag XJ / S. All required the structure of the car to be cut and shut to take the Daytona panels. I did some work on a "factory" built, Jag based Robin Hood Daytona, it was a botch job and loads of work to just get it to MOT stage ! Luckily that one was registered as a Robin Hood Daytona so it did get back on the road legally.
