('Mods' feel free to move this if it's in the wrong section)

Following on from comment I made over in my other thread, here's some pic's of ongoing work on my project. You'll see I have a lot to do :ohwell:

New outriggers, front ones not in yet, plus one more for extra support

As you can see....lots. I started around 6 months back and time scale was 2 years, its still 2 years and will be for a while yet

slow progress

Didn't get much work done over the winter, but I have managed to make some progress. I'm pretty close to fitting the metal subframe to help give some support to the body shell and then I can bond the new floor in place.
The visible impact of the new floor will help to boost moral too:icon_smile:

new picture.. all the arches and bulkhead now filled in. Just cut to suit the herald suspension and gearbox.

Milestone

Well, mods to the chassis are finished and now its ready for blasting, this week hopefully. This is a small but important milestone for me. :)

The industrial unit where its stored has no heating, so plan now is to get it into the garage at home where i can paint it and start the rebuild.
I've rebuilt the engine, gearbox and diff, well nearly, just a couple of parts to source. The objective is to have, sometime in the spring, a rolling chassis complete with engine etc.
The body is still no where ready to try on the chassis. Changing the design of the subframe i wish to fit inside it doesn't help. But i remain confident that i can come up with a better design and make it fit. Then I can try to get the body to fit the chassis. That's the easy bit..then comes all the fiddly stuff like pedals, screen, elec's etc.

Small progress

Small but important progress, 99% rebuilt chassis and engine ready to go back to the warehouse where my body in stored.

I can now start on making the metal framework to sit inside the body. This will give extra strength as well as anchor points for seat belts etc. I can see this as being a rather frustrating task, mainly because I'm fitting it in whilst its upside down and with no floor in. Doing it this way allows me to make pre welded sections and insert them into place easier and keeps inside the car welding to a minimum. Overhead welding in awkward places is not my strong point. Old age and failing eye sight doesn't help either

Still have lots to do before the body gets fitted to the chassis and lots after too, but I am really enjoying the challenges..... so far.

Go on, hands up those who thought I'd given up.

Nope I'm still chipping away at it, I've finely got the frame work in after much shouting and cursing. I learned a valuable lesson when welding...BEWARE of distortion.
After lots of time cutting, tacking, remeasuring and then checking it all over again it fitted like a glove. Next out with the 3 main sections and sitting them on the floor I proceeded to weld all the joints. Now the fun bit assemble them on the floor and admire your handy work. ???? @%&£&... That doesn't look right!!
Arrggg, yep distortion, I should have made some sort of jig...yeah i know this now... So out with the tape measure and hacksaw the worst joints reposition and start again. Only this time with a crude jig, this involved lengths of 3 x 2, scaffold poles and lots of weight to keeps things still.
It worked, so back in the shell and lets get the floor in. I've been making a few bit as well, to replace the originals. Like the door hinge which I modified too include nuts so I can adjust the doors.

BIG moment for me, (with some help) I turned the body shell right way up and placed it on a trolly. This will help a great deal with future work on the body.

Next job is to fit the body to the chassis well line it up etc, so i can cut out the infilled arches Then the trans tunnel, do a bit more welding, then.........
Yeah yeah... I'll post again when I've made some progress.

End of era?

Oldest problem i guess with projects. Not enough spare time, well convenient time that is. Working in my garage is ok, but having to drive across town in all weathers to unlock gates/warehouse was getting to be a drag.

So its on ebay

I got side tracked last winter too, in my (warm) garage. This didn't help either.

see before and after :-
