Seats Getting The Hump!
Thought I had my seat configuration sorted but have now realised that I am going to have great difficulty aligning the centre of my seat with the centre of my hump on both driver's and passenger's sides!
I have fitted a pair of Gary's lowered floor pans such that the inboard side of the 'well' is as close to the chassis as possible. I even cut-down the seat belt mounts on the chassis to allow me to acheive this. Noticed this afternoon that (looking from front, driver's side) the inboard edge of the 'well' is approx 2" to the left of the edge of the hump. So even if my seat was only the same width as the hump, then the centre of the seat would not be in the same place as the centre of the hump - but my seats are going to be wider than the hump which will exacrebate the problem. Even if I go back to flat (ie unlowered) floors I am not going to be able to move the seat far enough (ie I would guess 4") into the transmission tunnel area so as to align seat centre with hump centre. So my other thought is to move the humps 2" outboard on either side but I think that this will foul the centre part of the rear wings. Am I mssing something here or maybe just being a bit too fussy? i used very small boat seat`s, and changed the angle in my rear of the tunnel, to allow for me to move my seats to align up with the head rest. gary |
I remember in a previous post Gary saying the humps are not central to the seats.

Yup that's right, its designed like that.
I'm the one who asked previously as my big-n-chunky cobra seats aren't in the middle of the hump. But TBH it really isn't that much of an issue and I don't even notice it nowadays as I think that once its all together it just looks.... right! :) |
Chris, the seats don't perfectly align, the drivers side on mine is slightly further out than the passenger, however as I built my own seats, they line up better than others.
As soon as I get my seats back from the trimmer, I will fit them up and take some pictures. |

I couldn't find the text either. :( I do remember the discussion on whichever thread it was and I remeber Gary saying that the fairing is placed where it is for styling reasons. It just didn't look right when it was moved further outboard. The way round it is to use either a bench seat back as already suggested, or lower narrower seats that leave a gap between the top of the seat and the bottom of the head fairing to divert the eye away from the slight mismatch. :spy:

Seeing as it's my car in the piccy and I'm quite protective :) i will add that in reality you really don't notice the offset as much as it stands out in that picture. But i would agree that a bench seat, or lower backs, or seats that don't have quite as well defined "sides" as mine, would easily overcome this if it really is a problem for you.
That said, i do quite like my big-n-chunky seats as they help overcome some of the bounce from the lowered / altered suspension :) |

Another quite important factor is the seat in relation to steering wheel. Looking at a few piccys the steering wheel is offset to the hump the same way as most seats. If you align the seat to the hump the steering wheel is to one side.

When I come to building my frame I am planning to see how much scope there is to angle the steering column to try and get hump, seat and wheel in line. This image shows the steering wheel clearly not central to the seat, and the column is angled slightly towards the tunnel.
