5exi register
Hi Guys,
I'm now one of 2 technical reps in the Marlin Owners Club for the 5exi. The club has a fairly low turnout at most events for exi's (2 cars on Saturday this year at Stoneleigh!) .... and this needs to change. I'm trying to encourage as many owners as possible to come along to the shows (and maybe even a dedicated exi meet up?)..... To try and help I want to establish a register of exi's - what is where and a few details (engine type, colour, reg, region of the UK, contact number etc). I'm also asking Marlin for the same info. This information would not be distributed or stored online to respect privacy. ...and also for any feedback from Madabout members that own exi's as to what they would like from an owners club to make it more attractive. Please PM me with car details and ideas Thanks in advance Rich |
Hi Rich
I set up a map a while ago for the madabout forum. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...2526#post12526 Might give a head start and also googlemaps will give you an idea of areas. |
Rich
PM sent. Happy to participate from the South West. May not travel too far to join in and I don't do camping if its cold or wet or looks like it could be cold and wet! 62 reg, 1.8VVC, Blue, TD suspension Mods. Regards JC |
Good idea, Rich - I was thinking of something along the same lines. More for in the future if new owners wanted to trace the heritage (for want of a better word) of their cars. I'll PM details of mine (hopefully with an update within the next few weeks!).
Dad and I usually attend Stoneleigh, and also go to Exeter every year, as it's our 'local' kit car show. Can't ever remember seeing a 5Exi there (unless it was on the Marlin stand, but they don't attend any more). I've found chatting to other owners really useful during the build, and for planning future mods/updates to the car. The forum is brilliant and been a real project saver, but actually meeting other owners and talking through their cars with them at shows (or at their homes) is invaluable and it really helps to motivate you when you see what they've achieved and how they've overcome various 'hurdles'. Thanks for the help and advice at the show - I've found the details of your rear suspension mod, and will be ordering the bits to fit ASAP. Congrats on the award as well! |
Run to Roadford later in the year
MadDogMoggy if you hook up with an Apple County Kit Car run in Dorset or Devon we could get two together....:lock1:
We do a trip to the Roadford Lake in August September time that will run passed your neck of the county. JC |

I'm not far from the Dorset/Somerset border, and my passport is up to date, so I'll be in touch. Tim |
Hi Tim.
Here's a couple of pictures of two together. Not got a photo with more than two though:D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...t/DSCN0340.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...t/DSCN0342.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v693/limpabit/023.jpg |
Update - I have details (some comprehensive, some not) of 25 cars now!
Not all finished; and according to DVLA many on SORN too. I will continue to work on the list and would still be appreciative of any information by PM. .....must be possible to get 10 of these together in one place, at some point? Rich |
Think you would be hard pushed to get 10 together in one place. Would say you would have a better chance getting 10 together, if say there was a track day or something.
Main problem is the distance apart for every body. |
One option....
Dave Gallop at TrackDevelopments (Chippenham/Swindon area) is running a weight clinic on May 25th.
If your booked in via the Bristol Kit Car Club there is a free BBQ and drinks. Dave does this clinic most years for the BKCC there is always the possibility of having a 5Exi weigh-in or suspension options talk/debate/review. I was considering running up and paying for the BBQ just to see some of the BKCC boys and their cars.:thumb: JohnC |

if you do a Google Image search you'll probably find most of the finished ones. I found two pictures with 3 finished 5exi's but couldn't find one with four! And some changed colours. I remember the first one was Marlin Purple/Green which I think was resprayed silver or orange? It could become a very rare classic in the future! ...peter |
Hi Peter,
...yep, been there! Using google image search, along with the forum and my knowledge of which cars were built when and where has generated the list so far. I know I haven't got them all yet. For Example - I can remember my brother test driving a red one with rear spoiler...there was a yellow one for sale on the forum approx a year ago.....red one that had an accident and was repaired (used to be the one in the picture on the side of the Marlin truck)...etc The quest continues. Rich (aka Inspector Clusoe) |
I'm on John's google map, so that makes it easy.
Mine's been pictured with Ken's car many times, including a feature in Total Kit Car when we took part in the Mallory endurance event a few years back. Sadly Ken's car won't make another appearance, but once I've found some time to put 4 wheels back on my car, mine will be back in action. Time is a struggle unfortunately, so it'll be a while yet. Happy to meet up at track day or similar. I'm not one for shows, hence not appearing at Stoneleigh, though I did go to Exeter last year (as I needed some tools for other projects). |
I dont think you got me on the map.
and yes I have been very quiet for the last year............ since getting my car on the road I havn't been able to get out in it much, as a wife and a 7 month old baby don't all fit in the exi. Let me know if you want my postcode to add to the map..... its about time i got going on my hobbies again................... |
