Crunch

Ouch.
Ive only gone and stacked it !!! :smash:
Under braking the rear end overtook the front end, and end up gong backwards underneath an Armco barrier. A Piece of Armco flew off and hit me on the head knocking me out cold, and leaving me a 9cm cut and 9 stitches to the head, I'm now into my fourth week of concussion. I am doing ok, no lasting problems, although I am very lucky to make it out the other side given what hit me on head. :amen:
The car....... well its been written off :(
Everything behind the seats is bent, including the rear firewall and frame.
The roll cage did its job and stopped the Armco going into the passenger compartment, as the rear of the car went underneath the barrier.
Considering it only had 600 miles on the clock Im kinda gutted......

Full sequence and more pictures Kit Car Crash

I have decided NOT to buy back the salvage and rebuild it. It took 2 1/2yrs to build it and since the birth of my baby daughter I wont be ale to find another 2 1/2 years to rebuild it.

Hi Steve.

Sorry to hear this. But glad your ok. That's the main thing.

Car is only a piece of metal/fibreglass.

I had a similar thing happen at 900 miles once I fixed turbo leak. Spun and crashed. Takes a lot of confidence out of you for a good while.

If you wanted another 5exi, they come up for sale or owners might be able to be persuaded to sell if you wanted one already built.

All the best

redratbike 26th August 2014 12:58

wow! i think luck was on your side and also the build quality of the car showed itself to be good enough.

time to sit back and reflect on a close call ,go and enjoy your daughter .

as above its only a car...loads of them about ..but only one of you!

bigrich 26th August 2014 19:29

Whoahhhhhh.....

Just gone through all your pictures and you are a lucky man. I would definitely focus on the family and leave the exi as history, if I were you.

Shame though - always a pity to see an exi scraped, but more important that you are breathing still!

Take care

Rich

Don't you have to wear a helmet on the track?

Ric H 26th August 2014 23:43

Wow, lucky escape, glad you're OK. You must be gutted about the car, but I can completely understand not feeling like you want to take on a major rebuild like that. Looks such a sad sight sitting there in the write-off yard.
:(

Ouch :fear: nasty accident, I'm glad you came out ok (sort of). Totally understandable not wanting to go through a build again.

What's going on in the last pic btw, looks like someone is just about to take a sanding block to your noggin.

That is absolutely gutting :'( What sort of figure did the insurance company give you for to write off?

Same thought. But, given that the insurance company is paying out, I'm thinking it was on the public road.

Thanks for the words peeps, to answer the numerous questions I have had......

It was a public road, so no helmet needed.
Insurance company will hopefully pay for all my losses.

That is the lump of Armco barrier that flew off the armco and struck my head, its a bracket from the C shape profile armco, that holds the barrier onto the cemented in post. The car was going backwards and this piece came between the rear humps, past the seats and struck my head, knocking me out. I have kept the piece, and am going to mount it on a piece of wood, it weighs nearly 1Kg.

After two months I have settled with the insurance company

As I have said Im not going to be getting another 5EXi :ohwell:

If anyone is interested in the the salvage autction for parts keep an eye on
http://www.hbc.co.uk/auction-models/...ommercial.html

you might get some parts cheap !!!
Although i'm not sure how it became at Cat C Id of thought it should be a Cat B given the smashed chassis.

Cheers
Steve
