Car looks great :)

Prefer the top grill if you are collecting opinions :)

Car Photographer - Hi Paul,

Looks like your project is progressing well and both grille options look good to me.

There are some details on how Swifty made his own "Grille 1" style below:

Good luck, Paul. :)

Cheers, I'll have a look :)

Hi Car photographer. Great thread and for what it's worth I prefer the top grille, it looks much more like the one Ferrari fitted to the original! I am looking at buying the Fiorano kit and another forum member, Roadster, suggested I look at your thread. Have you had any problems with the build or has it all been fairly straightforward? Anything on the basic kit which could be improved? Any advice or information will be greatly appreciated - this will be my first kit car build so please assume I know nothing! Thanks in advance.

Glad to see my build has re-kindled a bit of interest in these kits again (maybe I should get some sort of commission)

One of the things that made me feel a little sad when I got it was that there used to be a network of people who had them, and that seemed to have disappeared a couple of years ago .... so the more the merrier in my opinion.

To be honest I bought mine already 'half built' - so I don't know what problems you might have at the start of the build.

we have had some issues - the one I have at present is that it seems to be burning way too much fuel - my mechanic friend seems to think it could be because the engine is angled slightly ( about an inch higher at the front compared to the back of the engine) - and he thinks this is making the one carburetor flood constantly. he's going to have to change the engine mounts slightly to try and overcome this - and see if it fixes the problem - fingers crossed.

The wiring loom could be an issue I suppose - mine didn't come with a loom from the donor car,
so I brought a generic kit car 12v loom (much cheaper than a spitfire one) but it had to be all wired up - which took a bit of time and skill from my mechanic friend.

one other problem I had was fitting seats - the spitfire ones I had just wouldn't fit in and I also tried some small bucket seats from a kit car parts supplier (like most fioranos seem to have) - and if I had fitted them - the driving position would have been so far out that it would have been uncomfortable to sit in and drive for very long I think.

so I ended up using old landrover seat bases, mounted onto old landrover 'middle seat' frames, that were then adapted to fit the removable bases. then I made a basic seat back that I had covered professionally by an upholsterer.
but I think now the driving position will be much better and the seats also look more 'period' maybe too.

apart from a few things like that I don't think it's been too bad compared to other kits - it's just taken a while because my friend who's helping me is busy with other work and so can't work on it as often as I'd like him to.

if you have any other questions feel free to ask and let me know if you manage to get hold of one

I'm hoping to maybe have mine roadworthy and drivable for the Stoneleigh show, but who knows :)

Car photographer 18th March 2016 18:08

just posted a couple of ads for them for sale on your other thread :)

Old Jock 18th March 2016 19:00

Thanks for the tips about the wiring loom and the seats, just the sort of information I wanted. I like the seats. As you say, they are very "of the period" and as such I may incorporate your idea into my build. Have you decided what colour to go for? I know that mine will be VERY RED!!!!!:icon_lol: Keep up the good work on the car - and the thread:focus:

Car photographer 18th March 2016 22:43

Cheers,
no not decided yet - I would have gone for rosso red - but I actually went to see the red car in that advert I posted - and I was very 'underwhelmed' with it on the car, so at the moment I'm torn between a darker - burgandy red or a mid silver like that new electric Morgan

Nice colour, although I am a little biased as it is close to the colour of my daily driver!

As an aside and being very nerdy, I just ordered an aluminium gear knob with a Ferrari badge in a red to match the red on the key fob which I already had. It was done by this guy Sussex Classic Cars
jonathan@sussex-classic-cars.co.uk in less than 24 hours and cost only £22.45 including post. If you have any ideas about what you want to detail (apparently American speak for "tart up") your car give him a try, he has been really helpful.

Hi mas123mas, Did you get a t48? What is the quality of the parts like? Any problems with the ordering or the service? Did you pick it up yourself or was it delivered and if it was delivered how much did that cost? Have you started the build yet? Only asking as I am thinking of buying one, so the more info I can get the better.:ear:

Car photographer 19th March 2016 18:58

Cool that's worth knowing :)

Old Jock 21st March 2016 18:58

Hi Car photographer, another couple of questions which you may be able to answer. Is there plenty of room around the engine, sufficient to be able to remove the engine and gearbox without taking the body off? Is it possible to remove the body with the engine and gearbox in place? I only ask as I may want to put a bigger engine and a different gearbox in at a later date so clearance or ease in removing the body would be useful then.
Happy fettling, Paul:thumb:

Car photographer 22nd March 2016 00:02

I don't know about removing the body, as mine was already fitted when I bought the kit part done, but my engine looks as if you probably could shoehorn it out if you took bits off it.
I did see a pic of one that someone had put a flip front on the front of the car presumably to allow for easier access - if you Google some pics you may find it ( from what I remember it was with a group of them at a kit car show)
Hope this helps

I also bought my donor car today, a Spitfire 1500. The seller is going to remove the bodyshell and cut off the front of the chassis in front of the anti-roll bar mountings so a big part of the dismantling will be done for me! My friend Duncan has volunteered the use of his trailer and his son's Landrover to tow it. Only drawback is that the trailer currently has about 2 tons of stone on it so I have to help unload it. Not sure how long that will take as my friend doesn't use a watch, just the sun and darkness!

Lol - good luck :)

"Car" I came across this video and I thought of you.
Dark red paint and an unusual grille -

I know your close to getting on the road - I hope it inspires
