instrument panel lower radius

Evening all. I've a simple question about the IVA rules on the radius of the bottom edge of the instrument panel. The IVA in section 12 RS7 states

"The instrument panel lower edge within the “specified zone” must have a radius of curvature not less than 19mm or 5mm and be covered with a non-rigid material, except where an adaptation for a disabled person makes it impossible to comply. (see notes 6 & 7)"

I read that as:
- if your dash is solid e.g. wood or ali etc it needs 19mm radius
- if your dash is covered in foam and vinyl / leather it can be 5mm.

It's not a very well constructed sentence so I spent a good 5 minutes thinking "well what is it, 19mm or 5mm?"

Just wanted to double check my understanding before wasting time doing the wrong thing.

Well to be sure I got through IVA I got some cold water pipe foam lagging (which has a split in it), covered it in leather cloth and slipped it over the bottom edge of the dashboard. Since my dash was black leather cloth anyway I've left it on.

Ian,

I THINK you've read it correctly. As you say, it's a lousy sentence.

I chanced my arm a bit but got away with it. My dash is 12mm solid walnut. I routed out the bottom 10mm of the dash to 6mm thick and radiused the edge to 5mm(ish) I then put an edging strip on it (same as the edge of the cycle wings) and the tester was happy.

But another day, another tester, who knows............

well I was planning on fixing a rounded profile on the bottom using some thick beading and then covering the whole lot in foam and leather anyway so sounds like as long as it's over 5mm, which it will be, I should be ok. I just didn't want to have to try and find 19mm plus beading.
thanks
