When I spoke to the guys doing the DBR1 they recommended the glass fibre body if I was planning on using the car and the alloy body if it was just for showing. The reasoning being that the alloy body will dent more easily and all repairs are more difficult. Nice guys but frightening prices

I don't know how they manage this..... I'll try to explain my logic in making that statement: They appear to be registered using old Jaguar registration marks - however they have new chassis and bodies. In addition they are produced by a manufacturer (cf Amateur built) so require a tighter set of emission numbers, unless this has been achieved by adding a catalyst of some sort (I guess that's possible) although they are running carbs, which makes this all more difficult. Hmm - Manufacturer treated more favourably than amateur... who knows?

I've often wondered about their registration process myself. It possibly falls into the 'Get an age related number plate' category below -

...meaning that so long as you use at least two major components, engine, gearbox, rear axle perhaps from a donor Jag and fit them to a brand new chassis you can get a plate that reflects the age as the donor components. I guess it needs IVA though.

I understand that once it has a new chassis the points/ new components is irrelevant - Maybe I'm wrong? reading the above linked, I am wrong

I saw one of those on the MEV stand as was very unimpressed. The lines really didn't work and it screams KIT CAR

Yep. Nice thing bout the chassis they do is you can put another shell on. Was looking to do that with the Alfa panels I got but will have to wait for 4 years before I can do that. The chassis is about 2k then gotta transfer the mechanicals and drive gear suspension. Then sort some sort of floor panels . Would need bout 9k to do the basics that's without paint or windscreens

And typically with MEV, no mention of IVA and how it would be passed.

Their price list for 2015 is on their site for download basic build in grp is £55k...If you all metal instead add 20k.

What about this: Jenson Healey gt as a donor for something Ferrari based, probably 250 California, it seems to have the right proportions and the windscreen looks suitably period

Had an idea but that's all it is. Take an Alfa gt 105. Take a iso grifo and use the roofline of the grifo and place between the wings of the GT. Bit like an American car called a rambler coupe. The roofline finishes into the boot Lid end like grifo.

Not keen on that as it mixes the sensual lines of the Iso with the angular 105.
If you want to go nuts, how about Anglia (100E) roof on the Alfa 105 bodyshell.
Chop the roof, section the body, Integrale arches.......

Thing with all the chopping and changing is getting it right - I think this is where Chris has an eye for it and I don't.
It's all too easy to think Hmm, "I like the look of a triumph herald and also like the Morris minor - I'll graft the rear of a herald onto the front of a minor" :nod:

Well if simplified it by having the iso roofline going into the boot with its tilted boot and the wings of the Alfa gt and door line and swage line. And width of the iso . The tailights of the gtv onto iso.Italian muscle with harder lines of the GT. The side profile of the GT is quite rounded. That's why I mentioned the rambler it has a what the back would look like without the large glass panel of the ISO

If you look at a 1965 rambler marlin not the side window but from the back and imagine the tops of the GT wings and swage line. The roof isn't hard or sharp. Bit like the iso but instead of the glass at the back it would be a solid shape with rear screen. Yes triumph equals hard and Morris curvy.
