New to forum building Ford based
 
New to this forum but have been building a Sportster very very slowly for the last 5 years. Will certainly be finishing it this year!

Would be very interested from any other guys building Ford based Sportster. I am using Rover V8. Also any other Sportster builders who maybe nearby. I am in North Devon.

While I am here would like to ask what conclusions have you guys come to regarding Maximum wheel/tyre size that can be used? I do like to see the wings full to the max! I would like to use 17" wheels but is 7.5J ok? I have just been reading one of the mag reviews of the Purple demonstrator and it says 17" wheels with 235/50's but no wheel width given. Does anyone know the exact size of all the wheels/tyres on this car?

8J's seem to be fine on both the back and the front with the right offset. 17" also look good.

Take a look here there's quite a lot of finished sportsters in the stoneleigh gallery. Ford ones have parallel front wish bones and the BMW's are at more of an angle! http://www.msportster.co.uk/detail.asp?cat=12

The light blue sportster has a bigger overall diameter wheels (225/45/R17) than most of the other BMW one as its based on the slightly newer BMW 3 series that had bigger wheels. I estimate it to have atleast 8.5J wheels on the back going from the stretch of the tyres and 8J on the front but im not 100% on that as I didnt speak to the owner.
