Kit
If you could produce a copy of the Mistral kit like the blue one with the cortina mk1 next to it, I would definately want one if it could be made to fit a Herald as I have a spare chassis,

The car in the photo http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...e/IMG_2082.jpg is the same shell that we have the moulds for but it has the twin side vents, headlight openings and cockpit opening enlarged, all of which we can do. The first body out of the mould will be offered up to a Herald chassis and we will report back to you about fit. |

Interesting link to a Triumph Mistral sports special. Pops |
Thanks for the link Pops. I like the "distressed" race car look :biggrin1:

Been considering this body as an option for bodying my '60s clubmans car project and came across this to help me decide it it'll fit (from Motorsport magazine in '58).....
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8523/8...017be5a112.jpg Mistral plans wonder how close the production bodies were to the planned sizes? and of course it's quite easy to lengthen / shorten. Interesting that it appears lights, doors and maybe even inner wings etc appeared in the plans, but were obviously not part of the moulding supplied. Al |
Has there been any progress on any Mistral Shells? Anyone mid-build?

I'm looking at selling my '60s clubmans / F1200 project, and considering putting some funds into a TR3/4 chassis to build with a Mistral body, if they are still being offered?
I think retaining the Triumph ID would be OK under the 8 point rule as long as the chassis wasn't altered, and I retained suspension and steering (may well retain engine / box too. The standard (pardon the pun) body would fit the TR chassis dimensions, wouldn't it? Al |
Mistral
I have an MX5 I am about to strip down for the engine, box, loom and instruments for an old very unfinished Ford based Merlin 2+2, but I also have an MGB that I could use instead. Having seen your wonderful Bentley a few years ago and your other projects, if you can get a mould as good as the colour picture, I would seriously be interested in buying one as a body swap for the MX5....I speak from experience that knocking out a good mould takes time and has to be worth your while, so I sincerely hope you get enough feedback! ....I'm currently making a body tub for a Riley Brooklands boat-tail, that will sit on top of a Vincent chassis from Dwornick Engineering.
Best of luck nd continued success Andy Westgate Quote:

My Mistral
Hi all. I will be starting this little beauty soon. It came without engine and gearbox. I have an overhauled A series to go in but not sure how the rear gearbox mount is attached to car.
The chassis is a mystery if anyone has any ideas please let me know. It has Morris Minor (I know!) running gear. I would be very interested to see other completed mistrals if any are near Bucks/Oxon. https://flic.kr/s/aHskSmPmvR Andrew |

finished Mistral
Hi Andrew
If you give me call I can put you in touch with my Landlord who has just built his. My number is 07733282947 Cheers Andy We're based in RG20 |
Not the clearest photos, but here's how I did the rear gearbox mount on mine - some 3mm x 50mm flatbar bolted tight on the tail of the box, mounted onto a couple of exhaust bobbins to take the vibration mounted onto a bracket on the chassis. simple as could be.

Daglocks – Welcome to the forum Andrew.
What are the rest of your plans for this build? https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3828/3...2a33d538_c.jpg Personally, I think it would look much better with a small wind deflector screen. Although I do know driving a car without a roof can be nerve racking at times. It would be great if you could start a build thread for this. Good luck, Paul. :) |
