New member hoping to build a Kobra and then a 250 SWB GT Coupe in 2020

Greetings from Barcelona, or just south of it!

I'm a new member on here and am hoping to build a Tribute Kobra in 2020 with my father and if that works out ok I would like to build a 250 SWB GT Coupe for myself.

I am living in Spain at the moment but plan to move back to Ireland (yep I'm Irish:rain:) in 2020 and build a Kobra.

I have spent hours, probably days on this forum going through old build threads trying to soak up all the knowledge like a sponge:ranger:
Please forgive any stupid questions from me!

(I've had 4 Caterhams and 2 Chesil Speedsters so have a little experience of something out of the norm) - I didn't build these just tinkered with and replaced/upgraded parts!

First stupid questions from me re Tribute builds:

Kobra - how is the rear of the rear body section attached to the car? I know the body section is bolted to the B pillar where the original rear wings were attached but what about the rear section of the body behind the seats and boot area?

250 Coupe - Same question, I know the main body section is bonded to the top of the windscreen and I guess bolted to the B pillar but further rearwards? The bar used for the boot hinges, does the body somehow attach to that also?

I'm sure I've gone through every build thread but can't seem to find this attachment info.

Hi and welcome. On the Kobra the inner boot panel is first sikkafkexxed and tech screwed in place and any fettling to get it right performed. Then the rear tub is fixed to the b-pillars as you know whilst being fixed and tech screwed along the remaining metal chassis / body along the back of the hood. You also glue to the the inner boot panel and finally a couple of brackets behind the rear wheels.

This needs a few hands and weight to achieve. Look for my build thread on here where I build my Kobra as a couple of pics mid thread show the car waiting for the Sikka to go off.

Hope this helps.

If you need more support and close to purchase I would recommend contacting either Tribute direct or their build agent Classic Coach works who have built Kobras and SWBs and can offer guidance.

Dave

Thanks for that explanation Dave, I'll take a closer look at your build thread!

Found your thread Dave (lovely car, such clean lines and perfect ride height), useful photos for others that might be looking for this info so I'll post the thread link here, page 2 for the photos:

If you're over in Ireland and want to have a look at a half built one (swb) drop me a message -I'm Dublin based and the cars just up the road in Meath

That's cool CD, I'll probably be back this summer for a visit so will PM you closer to that time. So you have loads of time to get the build finished before then!

In theory...Hope to have a good bit done though in next few months.
