Taken the plunge
Ok, donor in garage and Chris has another order on the books.
Need to consider vented or unvented. Personally I like the vented front as it looks more period, unsure about the rear vents but impressed with the work done by Seanick. Might be something that will be considered. Looking forward to many evenings tinkering in the garage, and starting a build thread. Just need to figure out how to get photo bucket up and running. Sorry guys, expect loads of stupid questions from this direction. :der: |

Come on down and talk vents in a couple of weeks. I do like Nick's rear vents too, might have to do some kind of copyright/production under license deal with him!! This is the place for questions, stupid or not.... |
Welcome to the gang !

Starting to source parts
Couple of questions Guys,
1. what rear lights do people recommend, I have looked at the classic lucas items on SVC's web site, but not sure about the size. Alrternatively would Land Rover items be too big? 2. Do people recommend fillingt he voids of between the existing shell and the 250 body with expanding foam? 3. Anyone used LEXAN or Acrylic to make the rear screen? Or is the renault option a better bet? |
Landrover lights were fine for me, if you add self expanding foam its extra weight, Mine is a soft top but R5 glass would be best.

1. It's a matter of personal taste, but for your information, the lights we use are: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover...item2c692675c4 But the various round SVC lights you are looking at will all fit and have the advantage of a more period look with the chrome trim. :becky: 2. I don't recommend filling the voids with foam, as unless it is the water resistant type it can hold water, heavy and great for rust. Let the wind blow free! :plane: 3. I personally think the glass rear window makes the car look less "kit car" and you can wire up the heated rear window too :flame: We have them "in stock". |
Thanks for the replies, had a fruitful couple of days stripping the donor car down, and pretty happy with the lack of rust found.
I was a little surprised how rusty the suspension parts are, so now gong to strip down, blast and get it all coated I think. And definitely stiffen up the suspension, it bounces around like a hyper active kangaroo, need to figure out if I can lower 20-30 mm without causing issues with clearance for the wheels. Will start posting some photo's if I ever get to figure out photo bucket...... Nev |
Chris,
You have sold another rear screen then  will sort out payment when I come down and discuss the build with you. Pretty sure I have decided on the vented front, less sure on the rear, but will be good to see it in the flesh. Hope you had a good week away, now get back in the workshop and stop slacking .... :icon_mrgreen: |
I think you may be okay lowering 20mm. I don't know what it uses for bump stops, but its probably the shocks. It also depends on what diameter wheel/tyre combo you go for.
Once you have sused photobucket its easy. I do it all from my phone...pictures, upload and forum post. Mr Towed did a good short and sweet description over on the sammio site. |
Given up on Photobucket, whenever I try to paste the link from Photobucket it just says invalid file. Maybe it is because I am doing it from an iPad or iPhone , but very frustrated.

Looks like a tidy car, you should make a fair bit on the removed parts :-D

update
Hi, not sure as there is a small tear in rear plastic hood rear window, and it has obviously met some speed humps with its chin. Wheels should fetch something and the Mazda speed exhaust is looking OK. :icon_lol:
Just glad to have something back in the garage to work on. Was amazed how simply the MX is screwed together, although have some drilling and tapping to do on the m8 and m10 bolts that hold the wings on the base of the sill. |

Managed some time in the garage this afternoon, and on inspection of the underframe and suspension have decided to strip and refurbish brakes and most of the suspension, as the original shocks are past it (not sure how it got through an MOT 2 weeks ago.) i think i will go for a set of adjustable coil overs.
As I have a bit of time think I will underseal the car and straighten out the chassis rail which has had more impact. couple of pic's of progress. Attachment 723 Attachment 724 Attachment 725 Attachment 726 Attachment 727 |
