New Wheels for Vikki
I'm looking at getting new wheels for Vikki, after discovering that several of my BBS wheels are more oval than round. :/
I"m looking at all options... Nothing has been discounted yet, but current front runners are these: http://www.imagewheels.co.uk/large_wheel_pages/dbw.html Mainly down to the fact that they look like wires and Image can build them to fit the same wheel dimensions as I have now (7J, ET24, PCD 4x100). I'm also looking at these: http://www.imagewheels.co.uk/large_wheel_pages/dm.html http://www.imagewheels.co.uk/large_wheel_pages/BMA.html They're pricey... But they will fit. I'd really like wire wheels, but they get ludicrously expensive (According to the MWS website), especially as I'd look to buy new ones to ensure they're round and the spokes where ok. And I'm none the wiser that they'd fit without messing with the body work, as I'd need adaptors (£125 per corner - Orson Engineering), which surely will push the wheels out from the hub... And hence out from under the cycle wing depending on the offset and spacing. Yes, they're my favourites as well. And the Minister for Finance & War likes them as well... ;) No - no fuel vapour issues on Vikki. I'll just mosey over to your thread and read it again. I'm waiting for an MOT on the Golf, so it'll give me something to do. :) |
My vote would be for the first link as well, though I think they would need to be painted in shadow chrome or something like that rather than plain silver to get the right effect of a wire wheel. I'm not sure about the fake knock on hub cover things though. In that photo they seem a little out of proportion (too large).

When they eventually ring me back so I can pay for them, I'm going for the DBW wheels. I'll have a spinner, but a two eared aston / jag / morgan style one.
I have to ask about the finish. According to their website, they only do the following: SILVER GOLD ANTHRACITE GLOSS BLACK MATT BLACK POST OFFICE RED GLOSS WHITE ORANGE BRITISH RACING GREEN YELLOW GREY PRIMER CHROME PAINT (Extra) I'll ask if they can do the shadow / black / smoke chrome (it's what my current wheels are done in)... But if they can't, I was thinking anthracite. |
Update:
Just off the phone with them. I'm getting them in graphite powder coat (which is their dark shiny finish - but isn't on their list), with the two ear spinners. They're also going to polish the outer lip / rim so it's shiny, to give the look of a wire wheel I've seen fitted to some Morgans (dark spokes & hub, stainless rim, chrome spinner) I'm now going to lay down in a darkened room and try and get over the stabbing pain I'm feeling in my wallet. :) |
I think the two eared spinners will look much better, a bit like an e-type. Those three eared ones remind me of the ones you see on Halibrand wheels fitted to American muscle cars, not at all appropriate for a British style sports car.
