As suggested I this is a thread about a restoration recreation of a mid engine one-off that I have been doing for far to long.
effectively the restoration started afresh. I do have a question how come I can only see links to the pictures? |

The windscreen surround was made off the actual screen and the rear deck is also molded of the screen! |

Can you give me some Information about the Alfa engine and which gearbox is attached?
Is there an adaptor plate used? Thanks, Axel |

Engine is an early Alfa Montreal the gearbox was changed to a Renault UN1 (Renault 21 Turbo/Esprit) Iwas determined to keep the whole assembly short. The Flywheel was modified from the full Bowl type to a segmented type and used a Mitsubishi EVO pressure plate, A Renault Clutch plate and a a Toyota Corolla Thrust bearing which fits the Renault release fork I used the original UN1 bellhousing and an 10mm adapter it was cleaver piece of engineering we picked up the ALFA block original mounts on a CNC mill and using a broaching tool just drilled through the bellhousing at the necessary places. The surprise was at each point there was substantial material. What we then did was put 10 5mm countersunk bolts from the adapter back into the bell housing. The attach plate (adapter) is probably a good name as it was then welded and milled true and flat. It also caries the Slave cylinder with spacer and Ford V8 Hi torque with and another adapter. Needless to say there quite a lot of engineering time and thought went into the packaging. |

They are bespoke for the car and getting the opening shape so they would open and not catch and not open on to the bodywork was a bit of a feat and its one I am quite proud of. and friends who see the car that's one thing they comment on. and I have engineered gas struts to hold them open. Wow, respect for the engineering doesn't even begin to convey it! Excuse my ignorance but are we looking at a car inspired by the Alfa 33 Stradale? Is it for road or track or both?

Thank you for covering the links to pictures I sill haven't worked out how to do that. Interesting this website uses the same software as Ferrari Chat but the pictures are automatically posted as picture. It probably the cast of data storage. The story of this car is shrouded in a bit of mystery and to be honest I plan to leave it as just that, sorry. Its authenticity is the registration which is described as a 1966 Lotus Coupe model:- UNK (unknown). This have since found wasn't uncommon back then as I know of and so does the club a PIPER GT2 registered as a Lotus Piper! The picture of the rear 3/4 was the first time it was on its wheels even I think it looks stunning and I own it. Great motivation to keep going. This is the new chassis the engine and gear box need to be split to install but the good bit is the bell housing fits through the rear hoop all be it on its side. The adjustable suspension control arm mounts. These I am quite proud off and probably should patent the idea as thay are really simple but strong I have added a roll bar and screen hoop since then and extra removable bracing in the engine bay. One thing I am still deciding is the wheels, they are currently 6.5" front, 9"x15 rear. I would prefer a more period wheel and preferably not a Ferrari copy, to stay true to non replica theme.
I would be interested in people's thoughts. |
