MK3 looks super!
|
tough call.. the mk2 seems a more even fit against the top edge, but the mk3 looks more complete.
do you think it might look good if you added a brush strip (letter-box draught excluder) to the insides, to stop dirt, coins, etc falling into the mech? could be a nice alternative to a gaitor. |
Yep was thinking of that or some edging trim perhaps?
|
Mk3 for me too! Looks great a nice touch.
|
mk3 it is then, I totally agree good choice.
|
I didn't get much done this weekend I only sorted out the head restraints the Velcro wasn't working very well so I fitted a neodymium magnet which seems to work very well.
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1630 Jobs a good one. The gear-stick gaiter now looks a bit limp compared to the handbrake so I will have a go at making an alloy gate? I am planning on going to the Malvern auto-jumble on the 24th hopefully I will be able to pick up the last few bits I need to finish the car :target: |
Deggsy – Looks like lots of nice finishing touches getting ticked off your ‘To Do’ list.
I’ve been having a few problems with my photos lately. But I hope you saw the pictures of the white Jag I saw at the Goodwood Revival. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&postcount=429 As it certainly looks like you will have a car that looks almost as good for a fraction of the price. Good luck, Paul. :) |
Thanks Paul almost there now. Love the photos and that T bar on the Jag Hmmmmm
|
Nothing happening with the car at the moment too cold in the man cave and too much running around doing all the Christmas stuff.
|
I finally got around to doing a bit more on the car I fitted a mesh grill just cut to shape and glued in with a hot glue gun.
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1671 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1672 But as usual it was one step forward and three back. whilst trying to bleed the brakes again I noticed that a wheel was loose so I had to check them all the two offside wheels are not tightening up out with the vernier the wire wheel adapters are 2mm longer and the threads are 2mm sorter than the n/s ones s##t i could turn them down a bit but there is no way I could cut the thread (8 tpi left hand thread) so I bit the bullet and sent for a set of new ones $$$$$ then I discovered this. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1668 the threads on the stub axle are shot I don't have accesses to a press so I bought a pair of rebuilt ones. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1667 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1669 Almost fully fitted. when the new wire wheel adapters arrive I will have to fit decent wheel spacers instead of the universal ones I have at the moment, lots more $$$ doh. that's it buy for now. |
All work on the car has stopped for a while as we got flooded out on Sunday storm Dennis has a lot to answer for I'll be back working on the car ASAP.
|
Best of luck sorting out your flooded property, its a right pain going through all that. I'm just outside Upton Upon Severn, some people have had it bad again. The recently raised road into town was flooded out too, just getting around is a challenge !
Machined Mart have my postcode and are sending me emails for water pumps and de humidifiers, cheeky f******s. Never miss a sales opportunity !! |

Good luck and I hope you get sorted quickly |
Thanks guys it's just another hiccup and normal service will be resumed ASAP.
cheers Deggsy |
Deggsy - Apologies for missing your flooding news. :icon_sad:
Given the run of storms we had, I hope it didn't get worse before it started to get better. Good luck, Paul. :) |
Thanks Paul things are slowly coming together hoping to get back working on the car soon I'll post updates when things return to normal.
Cheers Deggsy |
Hi all I am back well ish the house repairs are coming along slowly but being held up by social distancing which is giving me a chance to do a little bit on the car the new wire wheel adapters arrived and are a perfect fit Look at the difference between the old and new ones.
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1673 I can only assume the old ones are for 5 x 15 wires mine are 4 1\2 x 15 there is a difference apparently. so if anyone wants a set of wire wheel adapters for triumph spitfire / herald or gt6 5 x 15" cheap let me know. by for now deggsy. |

Regards, Mick |
Hi Deggsy, sorry to be the bearer of potentially bad news, but I suspect that your new adaptors are for Spitfire 13" wheels only.
The splines on 14" and 15" wires are the same regardless of the rim width as the centres are interchangeable (some have more/less spokes but the hub is the same width), but the Dunlop 13" wheels fitted to the Spit/Herald/Vitesse/GT6 have a narrower central hub. If you trial fit a larger wheel to your new adaptor I believe you'll find that the threaded portion won't extend out of the wheel centre so you can't fit the spinner. The 13" adaptors do tend to be cheaper at about 2/3rds the price of the larger ones, and that almost caught me out when I built my Spyder. I'm struggling to find an article that details the difference, but read the info on this ebay listing - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-S...-/383101263911 Hope you're able to sort it and fit the wheels you want. |
I have fitted them the new shorter adapters are the correct size for the triumph 4 1/2 x 15" wheels (bought them on ebay and checked with the vendor first) so I believe the the longer ones are for the 5 x 15". Moss sell adapters which fit both sizes I don't know how that works?
Thanks for all the advice. Cheers Deggsy |
Ah, glad to hear that they fit.
Adaptors for TR's 2 to 6 are all the same, covering widths from 4" to 5.5" and look to be the same as the new ones you have (apart from the PCD) - http://shop.mwsint.com/product_details.asp?id=564 https://www.revingtontr.com/engine-t...re-wheels/tab1 The longer ones you started with are a bit of a puzzle, do they fit the splines on your wheels and do the same spinners fit both? |
Yes to both questions they came as a complete set with the wheels I only discovered the problem when I had the car jacked up to bleed the brakes?
|
I think they must be earlier ones off the 15"x 5 wheels? £50 plus p&p if anyone wants them.
I managed to get a few jobs done lately I bought a new battery as the small racing one wasn't suitable for this I had to re-locate the battery and make a new tray. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1676 But it didn't work out the way I wanted it as I had used the last of my alloy sheet and couldn't get any more I bit the bullet and bought one. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1674 I have made a alloy clamp just to be safe. As you can see in the photos I also had to re-locate the washer bottle. That's it for now keep safe everyone. |
Wow haven't been on here for some time so thought I better give a quick update. i could'nt get the cluch to work so the engine came back out I fitted new clutch pivot pin and bushes and new a pushrod. whilst the engine was out i dropped the sump and fitted oversised crank thrust washers + 0.05 that sorted the crank end play engine back in and now i have a clutch again :whoo: I am now trying to figure out which DVLA dept to send my built up vehicle report to as they can be a bit funny about that if it goes to the wrong dept they may send it back with an IVA application form :mmph: not what i want.
|
Good afternoon the form V627/1 goes to
K and R DVLA SA99 1ZZ , good luck Geoff . |
Ok thanks
|
Deggsy - Good luck with the DVLA.
Is there much left on your 'To Do' list? Good luck, Paul. :) |
Paul um no and yes the brakes need bleeding, not to bad. But just did a compression test yesterday after putting the engine back together and it is horrible 175. 135. 95. 90psi not good, it's running but will have to come back out at some stage. after I get everything sorted with the DVLA.

progress so far
This is the progress so far
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1780 Not very good photos sorry. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1779 and this is the offending engine. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1778 I had my suspicions about the engine so last year i bought a short block from Chris in Honiton it had been re bored and I had the crank reground. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1781 at this stage now the unleaded hed will come off the other engin as will the flywheel with it's pre-engaged starter. I will get that done after i sort out the changes with the DVLA :amen: |
I had a phone call yesterday from a very nice lady at the DVLA saying the application is going through fine she was just cheking on what I wanted the car to be called. I should have the logbook back next week fingers crossed.
