Trying to cure cold ears

I thought I would share my attempt at preventing the frozen left ear I have been suffering from during the last few morning motorway commutes. Although the frosty mornings look lovely the freezing air swirling over the 'screen and then blowing forwards between the seats gets quite tiresome.

I looked at the wind deflectors offered by BMW and other aftermarket companies and they seemed to offer the solution but at a price.

I decided to make my own so popped down to Wickes and picked up some 4mm plastic sheet. A few moments work with a jigsaw got me the basing shape and a couple of holes drilled through gave me mounting points. Total cost was about £10.

Good
Wind reduced but not totally removed from the cabin.

Bad
It wobbles and taps against the head restraints which is a bit irritating.
It shows fingerprints really easily.

Summary : Worth using for frosty morning drives and chuck it in the boot for the rest of the time.

Cold Ears......Pansey!

Coat one, heater on, heated seats on and I had to scrape the ice off the windscreen before I could set off.

It was worried I would lose the ear to frostbite!!

Nice work for a tenner.

I have the mesh windbreak on my Zed at the moment but am taking off the OEM hoops so will be looking for an alternative myself. Will go down a similar route to you

Cheers

Dave

Heat the drill bit when drilling the fixing holes. Otherwise they will crack around the edges and you will end up making bigger and messier holes than you wanted.

I have got the oem hoops and perspex deflector. The deflector has broad velcro type bindings, one at each side and one at the top of each hoop. The perspex looks about 7mm. I will be selling in due course.

Bought a hard top today not for me of course for the comfort of the passenger. Although hats would have been cheaper but they are sold out and would be compelled to drive to pan pipe music wearing them.
