Floor panels,
Hi has anyone had any experience with either of these products,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VARIOLINE-...#ht_1004wt_907 http://plasply.web.officelive.com/default.aspx They both look like an ideal floor pan substitute for plywood, but I don't know if it could be fibre glassed without affecting it, anyone out there in the know? Regards Psycho pops |
Pass. I ended up using Plywood, but then with a lowered steel pan in the middle.
I hope you don't mind me asking, but what 's the reason not to go the plywood route? If i wasn't so tall I'd have stuck with just ply seeing as it's cheap and strong enough to do the job nicely. |
Hi Dave
I was just looking for a lightweight material with no maintenance issues, these looked like they would be ideal but are fairly pricey. I am still at the planning stage so have all options open, may well end up with marine ply yet.. |
cool fair enough :)
I've got to admit that i pondered a lot about adding steel floor pans i went-for due to their weight, so it'll be interesting to see what alternatives there are out there. What about carbon fibre? I know that there are a number of DIY kits on the market nowadays and if you get it formed/re-enforced in the right places to accept the seats it would be very nice! But then you'd want to do other bits in carbon fibre and i can't imagine that it'd be cheap :) |
If someone was to make some steel lowered pans and allow me to mould them , I would supply them with carbon or glass fibre examples free of charge ...that way we could supply them as an option.
Would make some ourselves but we are just soo busy ! You could probably sell the original steel ones on here afterwards as well !! just a thought..... |
Have sent off for a sample of the plasply if / when I receive this I will try the resins on it and see if it reacts. Will post results with pics after. .

As i pretty much custom fabricated mine as i went (i.e. adding cavities to allow access to fuel line connectors etc.) i'm not sure i could make another pair unless i was building again as i kept fabricating/fitting/fabricating etc. as i went along and if i was doing it again I'd do things slightly differently. But that's the fun of this project :D Maybe 'next' time... |
Hi, I did consider cutting th original herald floor pan it doesn't dip down much and I had the ply kicking around, if I was going again I would look at that, but Gary knows my theme , skips outside engineering and steel stockholders places. Pat

Pats looking for cheap options and being quite creative with his use of parts to keep the costs down.... |
Just wanted to let you know that fiberglass will not bond well to plastic panels. I've experimented with them for some items that i wanted to produce. Just my 2 cents.

Hi Gary, true to form I got my seats from a skip behind a hospital, with permisssion, a bit of work will do the job and make a couple basic seats just how I want striped down racer... PAT
