insurance
where and who, is the best place to get the insurance from...and how much should it be costing, im about 1 week away from the road just waiting for my seats to come back from the trim shop....so i guess insurance would be a good idea...

Total kit car magazine and possibly website has a good list of options for you...
I run on a trade policy , so not an issue.....sorry Good news that you are close now ....I guessed you must have been tooling away as you have been quiet on here.... PICS PLEASE !! |
Check Pats and/or my build threads for details of who we went with. I fully back up Pats opinion that they're very good and knowledgeable and give a good price. I've just had too much cider to remember who 'they' are off of the top of my head :)

Hi, that insurance company/broker are called Aplan on 01635 874 646, whilst I was a bit ill last year I sat with the computer and phone and magazines and had a 2day survey and these people came out best,,, happy motoring, Pat
PS I put on this forum somewhere. |
Well I trawled the Forum and found Pats original posting regarding Insurance here it is hope it helps......
"Hi, all well what a difference in brokers, I've tried online/comparison sites and trawled the magazines and ended up with a list of 26. Varying between £90 and £260, thats for a 54 year old living in Devon and 3 points for my Sammio baesd on a 1296 standard Herald and not using any NCB. Fully comp with legal cover. It seems that there are two under righters! Highway (LV) £50xs and KGM £100xs and a couple of others that were nowhere near. All are running an "agreed value" thing you'll need colour photos and receipts I said £3K and less than 4000 miles a year. The TV comparison sites a waste of time for kit cars give them a pre 1972 VRM and they are totally stuck. Online sites did get back www.quoterack.co.uk and www.quotezone.co.uk, with Tescocompare saying try Sureterm direct or Performance direct. TR Youngs 01206 821330 (via quoterack.co.uk) gave the cheapest quote, followed by, A Plan ins 01635 874646 (Chris Clancy the man to speak to, a car fan not a call centre operator). Both the above less than £100. The main players as it were A Flux, Norton and alike add a further £30ish. Peter James and Blackford Bloor both quoting KGM Just under £105. As regards service the cheapest two also gave best service over the phone the worst Frank Pickles never did get back 5 calls over 4 days same for Suretermdirect did get a quote on call 6 with Highway at £101 but wanted to know everything as did Graham Sykes (wasn't wearing any that day). I'll be going with A Plan Ins me thinks you can meet them as they attend classic car meets and races (Castle Combe 10/09/11 the next jolly for them). I could write loads more but I've gone on enough, just one more thing the most played muzak whilst on hold Vivaldi's four seasons....PAT":eusa_clap: Good luck Pops |
Insurance
Hi Pat, just replied to you on my link, but then saw this. Will take the number down and give them a ring when the car is nearly ready. (a week or so did I hear?) Ha ha. Thanks again for the info,

Parts
Hi Guys, not sure I am supposed to do this, and would not be able to do it every day, but if you need a bit and it's very expensive I would offer to buy it from Rimmers as to be fair their service to Joe Bloggs is very good, and as my employer use them a lot we get great discount. ( other parts suppliers are available). I just bought a new fuel pump, engine and gearbox mounts, a rocker cover gasket and a carb diaphram for £26.10 all in.

Adrian Flux Insurance are offering very competitive insurance packages again this year. We have over 40 years experience.

Insurance company premiums vary - as does the extent of cover and service; so read the small print where terms may vary year on year at the whim of the underwriting department (and shareholders).
Any insurance company is only as good as it's claims handling department (often outsourced). Caveat emptor. |
Annual renewal just came through, so i thought i'd share so that you lot can compare with that you've got so that you don't get ripped off.
I went with A-Plan again this year. Policy is:
grand total for renewal ...... £112 ! Very happy |

ok, i admit it, in a moment of weakness and a hope to meet up with more local Triumph bods i joined "Club Triumph a few months ago.....
sorry... me bad... and while reading the "club rules" booklet that they sent when i joined it did remind me why i don't actively _do_ clubs and i most likely won't be renewing my membership next year. That said, i have met some amazingly interesting and eccentric local Triumph types as a result! :) It's also worth mentioning that A-Plan did say that by being a member of this Forum would count as well in this respect! |
I also went with A-Plan last week, although our sammio is a long way from roadworthy I heeded Toweds warning about the possibility of being wrecked whilst on a trailer going to inspection. They placed the policy with Highway insurance Co.
50 yr old male - sole 'driver' (I just wish I could!). No convictions Covered as a new build kit car / Sammio spyder - not a modified Herald 13/60. Kept in a locked garage between 10 pm and 6 am whilst at my home address. 3000 miles per year. Comprehensive cover. Excess £100. Not a club member. Annual premium inc. IPT £113.88 Admin fee £15.00 Total insurance cost £128.88 Hope this might help others, I did not shop around really after reading Toweds post. |
I just got off the phone with A-plan to insure my other kit car.
Car is a Countach replica, 3.5L V8 and the premium is under £250 including legal and breakdown cover. A-plan seemed very knowledgable and helpfull, great service :thumb: |
