Up and running...about time to!

After buying my kit way back in August I have managed to get the MX5 into the garage this week and start my build.

This is my progress on day one.

It won't take long Dave. I see you have a wood burning stove in the garage for those long cold winter evenings! Keep up the good work

Making progress

No turning back now. Sills all welded up, roof bonded to screen surround and rear section tiger sealed and screwed on. Just waiting for it all to cure now. http://[/IMG]0118059A02720_zps57065a76.jpg[/IMG][/IMG]

Took me ages to find the right image code. Are you using photobucket?

You've gone and done it now! Great progress:-)

Dave Lowes 5th November 2012 21:38

Yes photobucket but i downloaded the app on my phone and i dont think it has worked as well.

Tribute Automotive 6th November 2012 07:24

Good work Dave. Photobucket can be a pain, but the more you use it the easier it gets.

Don't forget to cut, bond and rivet some steel plates into the doorshut/windscreen head area.

I must get back onto doing the BUILD MANUAL! :bolt:

After a brief holiday i am right back into it. Still in the process of filling and sanding, filling and sanding, filling and sanding. Cant wait to start something other than filling and sanding but its gotta be done

I can't see the join Dave!! Great work :eusa_dance: The hard bit's done, now all the fun bits to do. Keep posting the pictures.

seanick 4th January 2013 20:53

Hey dusty, looks very good. Did you cut back the body to the old bonnet line, around the screen?

Dave Lowes 4th January 2013 20:56

Hi Seanick, yeah i cut it to that line. Thought i would give it a go. It looks allright. Saves a job messing around with the wipers.

Dave Lowes 18th January 2013 16:11

What do i do with the headlights!!!!!!
I have kept the headlight units of the MX5. Is it best to use these. If so what chrome surrounds are best. Just preparing stuff ready for when i finish my sanding:)

Hi Dave

Here's some links for what you need:

Headlights: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-Mini-Headlight-Lamp-Halogen-Conversion-Kit-7-Sealed-Beam-Wipac-Lucas-/360531156285?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM& fits=Model%3AMini|Plat_Gen%3AMK+I&hash=item53f154d d3d

Headlight buckets: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PAIR-7-Pla...item5ad832695d

Chrome rims: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MGB-Chrome...item2ec5297c17

You will need to trim the back of the headlight bowls before fitting. The headlight rims are the clip on type not the one's with the screw fixing at the base, you would have problems getting the screw in once fitted.

Dave Lowes 18th January 2013 20:24

Great. Thanks. I will get looking.

Dave Lowes 2nd February 2013 19:49

My car now resembles a leopard, been busy filling all the gel coat voids. Do i need to fill every tiny pin hole and mark or will high build primer fill them?http://

Dave Lowes 2nd February 2013 19:53

Never know which image code to use in the photobucket app. Will try this one.

Dave Lowes 2nd February 2013 19:54

Woo hoo. It worked

seanick 2nd February 2013 20:11

I think the primer will help change the leopards spots, especially the small ones
Great to see the progress:pop2:
