Triumph Chassis's

Right - Where do I start?

Questions (sorry they may seem stupid (and I should already know).....

1. Is there much difference (what are the differences) between the follow
a. GT6 and Spitfire
b. Vitesse and Herald
c. GT6 and Vitesse (apart from out-riggers)
2. Are GT6 and Spitfire steering and suspension inter-changeable?

3. What other cars have a similar wheel base and track?

Length is the big issue between herald/vitesse and spit/gt6

Different wheelbase

a. Same chassis. There will be some minor differences depending on which model/year you look at on the spitfire but i think that you could interchange them all without difficulty.
b. Same chassis. Some suspension changes etc but nothing chassis wise.
c. Completely different. GT6/spitfire has a much shorter wheelbase and track.

2. Yes

3. Reliant SS1 is similar. From memory its around an inch longer on wheelbase and a few (3?) inches wider track.

I once had a gt6 and with a minor mod we fitted a spitfire body to it, so they must be pretty similar

if you're looking for better handling though a gt6 rotoflex will handle much better round corners than the spitfire swing axle.
The bad part is that a gt6 will probably cost more

There may be a GT6 available, with a good/repaired chassis already stripped, but it is quite expensive for a donor car (I know GT6's go for a lot more then Spitfires), but this seems expensive for a chassis, engine and gearbox (basically as I would replace all the other bits with new).:violin:

I would like to go down the Straight Six route and have rotoflex, so I may have to bite the bullet.

It would make a much better car in the end :)
