New DNA 2fifty record? £90k expected at auction
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C870160
Well, 90k is the auction estimate anyways..... And it's a full fat 325hp Z3M underneath http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/uploa...ri/8754000.jpg |
Hope he has a high reserve.
Barons have a trick of suggesting a low reserve to get a lot of interest. If it doesn't reach reserve they have the right to have a "bidder" after the auction ends up to 30 days after the auction has ended. The "bidder" obviously only bids the reserve price. Tried it on with me a couple of years back, fortunately at the time on the website it said 7 days not 30 so I was able to refuse as they contacted me 10 days after the auction. There paperwork they emailed me said 30 days in the small print. Does look very nice, will be interesting to see how high the bids go. |
Does look very nice in black, suits it better imo than the previous red and light blue examples. £90k though is barmy, probably a bit of marketing gumph so it gets talked about on social media and forums :gossip: ........... oh :frusty:

Needs French yellow headlamps and spotlights to resemble that one that was found in a barn a few years ago.

I actually posted a photo of that car on another forum recently…. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2015/...3530231966.jpg |
This will be really interesting to see how this ends up!!
|
4K on a stainless system !!! if that's the sort of prices he's been paying no wonder they are asking top top dollar

Don't get me wrong, I think the DNA 250 is a great bodykit conversion, probably one of the best out there at the moment but £90k it aint. For that money I would want a proper engineered chassis and hand formed ally bodywork and for it to be an accurate dimensional replica and with an engine that stacks up to the original. Plus it just can't have plastic chrome bumpers at that money.
Maybe I'm a cheap skate but I would say the same about the Automirage 250, lovely as it is, for £120k it has to have an ally body and be more dimensionally accurate. I can sort of appreciate the craftsmanship and effort in creating a metal body and hence the value in £££ terms. I don't see it in the same way with GRP bodies. I appreciate the effort in initially creating the mould and both DNA and Automirage have created great quality GRP bodies but once done, bodies can then just be knocked out until the mould can take no more. No added value in my mind compared to a Cobra replica for instance. Are we going through a crazy period because of the general hype of classic car prices? I wish them luck and hope they prove me wrong as there is always a buyer out there somewhere with the readies who will fall in love with it. |
If you look at the picture you will see that it doesn't have quarter lights, I would love to see some more detailed pictures of it.

I take my hat off to DNA , they know how to play the game ..kits discontinued , bespoke builds only ..... they dangled the carrot and then whipped it away as soon as people started trying to nibble it ...If I could afford to do it , I'd only do builds and limited sales of kits as well ...... |
Everything about the DNA stands out, they are superbly finished, got to help drag the resale value of other well built cars up.
I don't think DNA intended to stop selling kits, I thing the response and high resale values took them by surprise. Hope they can carry on, they deserve great success with such a great product. |
Kit availability
I think I was was one of the first to ask the forum about availability of a 250 California under their thread "Ferris Buellers" day off. Just as am ready to purchase a kit, I have read on this thread that it is no longer available! Can anyone confirm and update me on this?
|
No kits, only turn key cars. Brian had so many orders he had to decide kits or full cars. As everyone needs to make a living he chose turn key cars and who can blame him.
Hopefully when the rush has died down kits may become available again, there must be a limit on people with extra deep pockets! I would expect the delivery date to be quite a way in the future to due to demand. You can of course order a 250SWBc from Tribute. |

250 california
Spoke to Brian today , they are no longer selling kits, and in fact returned deposits to some customers , I'm gutted, any other 250 California kits out there or for sale? Any one want to sell me there Dna kit?
|
|
That is going to sell FAST!
|
Back on sale
The black 250 is back on eBay £80k - its very nice but that's a lot of money isn't it ?

That will cheer Smash up!
Anyone notice that the picture clearly shows a silver donor but in the build pictures it is clearly a blue car? Looks very nice but not sure if the black really suits it and the interior has a bit of a "home made" look. Doesn't look anywhere near as nice as the pale blue and tan car pictured on the DNA thread. It does however look very nice overall and hopefully will sell for big bucks. |
That is a pretty car ...but 80 big ones ? I think theres a few people chancing their luck at the moment ... Brendan ( Mineheart on here ??) is asking too much in my opinion and so is this guy ...its local to me apparently , so might see it on my travels ..
You gotta love a traders description too ... starts off with ''Not one piece of this car is not as per the original, and therefore indistinguishable from the real thing.'' and he starts to doubt his own enthusiasm by the time hes finished typing because he signs off with ''A recreation that is visually almost identical to the original 250 GT '' |
home made dash , and dials, baggy hood,
couple of ideas I like, handbrake moved, removable side glass. |
I did notice the baggy hood but hadn't noticed that it didn't have quarter lights, now I realise that there are no pictures with the windows up, surely it must have wind up windows?

Looks as if the quarter lights have been painted on in this picture. It must have been a lot of work to delete them so seems to defeat the point if you then paint them back on! I wonder if the windows still work properly, I assume so otherwise it would make a very large dent in the selling price and I personally wouldn't pay big bucks if they were plastic. It would take the car to a whole new level if they were working and glass. |

I thought the same at first, but it seems like the whole front part along with its sealing rubber is now removable, which means that the windows do work but leave a rather distinctive gap (extra ventilation!) unless you place them back first. |
Estimate 50-65k

I'm pretty sure that that was the first car that sold for big money on Ebay, around £42k if I remember correctly.
Looks like it has been used a bit from the state of the floor carpet. |
Is it me or have DNA been keeping a low profile recently?
The 2fifty website is offline and the main DNA website has been "coming soon" for ages |
Really want to see what these actually go for at auction? I am sure Mark at Total sold his one for over £50k? RE DNA someone said they now only make the 250 as a complete car not kits or anything hence why the website is no longer live?
|
Marks had 3 through I think he said. Maybe they don't need to advertise if they have a long waiting list, maybe they don't want certain interests. Just thought it was weird - I mean I didn't think they'd ditched all their other kits?
|
Blimey if Mark has he must have sold them discreetly perhaps thats the plan keep the grey one on the website take orders off the back and move them on. That way no one actually knows what they are going for? re the kits what i heard was they decided the money was in full blown cars rather than the agg with the newer kits might be wrong though. Knowing what i know I cant understand why someone has not done the panel swap saga with a 250 GTO but a good one dimensions etc. Sorry Roy's one has never been the right shape too wide and droopy body in my opinion. The Datsun ones you can get quite nice if the full interior is done (not for £57K though as the racing green one is up for) again though the front wings should have been higher and not so flat. Slight changes decent engine done right they can be nice.
|
Nice car but the Z3 it depends upon under the skin was a Cat C write off. Surely you would think twice before spending £50k plus on it ? I'm sure it was all sorted but why build such a lovely car on a written off donor when good, straight cars can by found so cheaply to start with ??
|
Ideal donor, chances are it is all panel damage that would have been taken off anyway. I was looking for a cat C or D for my build, it was just that a cheap car came up.
I buy and repair damaged motorcycles, they can be written of for a scratched silencer or tank. Great value for a rebid. I also do a few cars, I bought 3 accident damaged MX5's for my Retroforza kit but all had such slight damage that I repaired them and sold them on. |
In the same auction a REAL Ferrari 308 and 456 have similar valuations along with a 1972 AM DBS. As much as the DNA is a well executed car, the value attributed just seems bonkers to me. Take the money and run if it gets anywhere near estimate. Buyer also has to add 15% + VAT to hammer price, ouch!
