Brakes

I am in the early stages of a Sportster build based on an E30 BMW. Mark has said to use a Metro servo to attach to the brake master cylinder from the donor. However, our local scrap yard says this is madness. Has anyone ideas of what would be a good arrangement for the brake master cylinder?

Sportster Brakes

Steve,
why would you believe your local scapyard?
Have they built any Sportsters or come to think of it have they built any cars?
The build manual pictures shows the BM master cylinder mated to the metro servo with the adapter supplied by Marlin.

Good luck with your build, I'm also building an e30 based Sportster so be interested in any tips you've disciovered with your build.

Can anyone confirm that you must use shortened rear springs or will the standard ones do OK?

regards

Peter

Rear springs

Just nearing completion of my E36 Sportster. Yes you do need 2 inch shorter rear springs unless you want the back end to sit up very high.

Strange this is the first place I've heard about shortening the rear springs!!

Nice site Andy.

Looking at your rear suspension problem, I can see now why the rear springs would need to be shortened.

How about a link to here from your links area?

Metor Servo

I think you are pretty much stuck with the Metro servo - there is very little room under the bonnet for anything bigger. If you look carefully you will see that even the pedal box is at a slight angle to the bulkhead - this is just to squeeze the Metro servo in!

I'm planning on ordering the servo from Marlin.

As for suspension I have been looking at AVO road sports for the rear both springs and dampers. They do a 55mm lowered spring which combined with the adjustable spring seat ought to work quite well. Just waiting to hear back from www.msport.co.uk on prices for just rear springs.

My donor had a snapped rear spring and two duff shocks.
