ABS
How many of you chaps are putting the Beemer ABS system on your sportsters? The parts list on the Marlin site says take the stuff of the donor if you want it, so that will mean taking the ABS portions of the Loom.
However, won't the wiring be to big / long for the Sportster chassis? And as both the Haynes and Bently manual promise doom, gloom and imminent horrible death if you chop the ABS loom around, how do you go about incorporating the ABS system? Do Marlin provide a replacement set of cables? |
Sorry,
my donor didn't have ABS, so can't comment on this one, best regards Peter |
ABS
My donor had ABS - I considered fitting it (for about 10 seconds...) Here are some reasons why not to fit it...
The ABS is an old system and prone to failure. Many E30's out there have a non-working ABS - they just disconnect the light in the dash so it doesn't fail the MOT.... If you fit the ABS it has to work or it sure won't pass the SVA test. The plumbing for the brakes when using ABS is mega complicated The wiring is also fairly complex. I have just spent the last two weeks "trimmimng down" the Bema loom so I can use it in my Sportster - a lot of the wires I removed were for the ABS. I guess if you use it you are gonna be the first on a Sportster - never good to be first unless you like an even BIGGER challenge All in my honest opinion of course Cheers Robin |

BTW GreatOldOne - where are you located? I am in Bedfordshire.

I'm in Northampton. My Donor hailed from Sandy... :)
I guess that to keep things simple ABS will be ABScent from my sportster! |
