What does the inside of the door look Like?

Have you fitted 'poppers' to pull the door handles?
I tried a couple of different models but neither had enough power to reliably release to door latch. If you do have remote release I would like to see how you positioned it all if possible. |
Ive used door poppers in the past before and they have all been sh!!t so i bought a remote garage door opening kit off ebay (a 1 that allows for 2 garage doors)...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1810852716...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT These are very good quality and the remote phobs feel solid and well put together. This phob has 2 buttons (A for drivers side door & B for pass door) I then bought 2 ford transit van central locking solenoids (very heavy duty! - infact they pull 3 amp unlike the cheap 1s from china that pull about 0.5amp) I added a relay into the circuite that was man enough and bobs your uncle. Ive sent them to colourtech to fit but if your thinking of doing the same il email you a wiring diagram i made. I never added any fuses into the equation incase they pop and i cant get into the car! However I will be adding a charge point some where incase my battery dies! |
***i added relay because the contactors in the garage door opening kit where only rated at 1amp
(the contactors give continuity not voltage so you have to add a 12v supply for each door) |
Pic of the drivers side.....
http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...psdh7xpo9n.jpg ive left the lock barrel in just incase the remote central locking fails! The petrol cap will be covered and re located on the top of the rear drivers side wing. |
The rear...
http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...psmxxg8tey.jpg Not much to see here, the number plate light place that was built up has been cut out and filled back in flush. The chrome hinges will be removed once internal 1s have been made. |
Front...
http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3hhivzey.jpg Front lower plitter widened and built out, ready for trimming and sanding. Bumper bar holes filled and sanded. Got to cut some new holes and add some fins through. Not sure yet if im going to change the bonnet scoop as per the concept im trying to replicate, i think i prefer it as it is! |
At least you are ahead of the game Danny, with thoughts about how to get in if you get the dreaded flat battery!
A really good tin-opener may be a last resort!! Good luck with it. |
Thank God it wasn't just my normal incompetence that meant the poppers I bought failed. I did wonder when the seller just sent me their uprated kit without asking for the original one back. They then refunded the cost when that didn't work without asking for either kit back.
Garage door puller is genius. I saw somewhere on the internet a popper kit with a hard wired cable pull behind the front wheel rain flap. Dead Battery? Reach behind the rain flap and pull the cable. Great idea but the bloke put it on the internet with a picture of his car and the location of the emergency lock puller. I wouldn't worry too much about being locked out though. It is really easy to get a straightened coat hanger with a hook on the end above the window and reach through to pull the roof releases. When my first attempt at door poppers failed it took the RAC man about 12 seconds to get in. |
A lad i work with works long trips away from home so he added a charge point to his car for a trickle charger like this....
http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...psr4zkqkuq.jpg http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6zkzcfai.jpg Going to add somthing like this just in case the battery fails. However someone told me that if you hold the unlock button down on a bmw that the windows open? Ive yet to see if it workes on a z3 though! |
Thinking of keeping the original bonnet scoop and adding stripes something like this...

I really like that Danny - going to look awesome!

Check out the latest TD3 prototype Cobra GT style from Backdraft Racing.

That's interesting. I like the front and rear wheel arches but not sure about the frontal view
|
I think that TDĀ£ looks awful. The proportions are all wrong. It is like a big car that has been shrunk using cheap cartoon software. It reminds me of the 'rad' VW Beetle charicatures

TVR used to fit a key operated lock hidden behind the rear number plate in case the car ever had a flat battery and you need to open the door. Very neat idea that worked well. You did need to unscrew the number plate first so neede a screwdriver as well.

WCA You describe the TD3 so eloquently!
There are some things we agree on! |

Im flying to the uk for a short visit (2 days!) on thursday untill my company flies me back to Germany for work onthe Sat. Il be calling into colourtech to take some pics and fit the door solenoids. Hopfully the car will be somwhere near paint so i can give the 'go-ahead' to paint it or ask for a few final 'tweaks' before paint as I won't see the car untill a friend of mine drives it to spain for me at some point in March. |
Progress is still going on the kobra and im back in the UK in about 6 weeks so hopfully it will be finished.
I was always going to go with matt black or matt dark grey for the colour but i came across this photo and I may have changed my mind!.. http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8cfv7bbx.png What does everyone think? |
