My shelsley :) SVA Friday

Hi, just joined. (thanks John (limpabit))

Anyway, here's a few pictures...

172bhp at 5290rpm
197lb/ft at 3740rpm
10.4psi (limited) Boost at 3110 through to 6600rpm
AFR was circa 11.2-12 on boost

The runs were from cruising at 2000rpm and are all at the wheels so i'm quite happy with that

Hi Chris.

Good to see you here.

Car looks great! :)

SDMC001 15th October 2008 18:27

Hi Chris

Echoeing Johns comments the car looks great, brings back fond memories just how much of a nice car the T2 is.

I spoke to Chris about your incident in the garage with yours Steve.

You were lucky you were not working on it at the time.

chrislandy 18th October 2008 10:59

well, it failed... But fustratingly just on emmissions.Couldnt get the co on fast idle to read below .3 what makes it worse was my average co was just .32! But computer says fail :(

limpabit 18th October 2008 16:56

I had this on mine Chris. Ended up being the cam sensor.

Try this. Engine should run on either cam sensor or crank sensor. Unplug one, see if engine runs. Then the other sensor.

chrislandy 19th October 2008 18:20

I've got a dta so no cam sensor :( might try a bigger cat and try to set it up next weekend at a garage with a gas tester

chrislandy 20th October 2008 07:13

I must say though, the guy at the SVA test center in Cardiff was a really nice guy, very helpful and aproachable, there were a few problems with the car but I was allowed to do the minor changes such as more zip ties on cables and adding a new fog light (the one built into the light cluster was facing the wrong way). the test finished at 11am but i was given until 4.30pm to try and ge the emmissions down, first test was 7% CO !!! but got it down to .32% during the test, on setting up i managed to get it to .20% but then the engine was getting too hot and all of the compensation tables were kicking in and sending the readings all over the place.

Overall, although it did fail, i was half expecting it to and i had an incling that it would fail on emmisions, it's just a pain that it was so close! I am happy that it passed on everything else though and no major work is needed to get it passed. :)

chrislandy 3rd November 2008 07:29

All passed now :eusa_dance: :becky: though i did blow the engine slightly on the weekend at Donnington  front oil seal went :(

SDMC001 3rd November 2008 17:17

Chris

Great news re SVA, dont despare I blow a crankshaft oil seal on mine. Hope you enjoy the car.

Steve

limpabit 3rd November 2008 19:23

Great stuff Chris.

How in the end did you get the emissions fixed?

chrislandy 4th November 2008 07:11

I got a 200 cell metal race cat put on it! I found a guy down in cardiff through a mate who custom fitted it on the car, not too bad a price either...

chrislandy 6th February 2009 15:56

Build Update Feb 09

Right, not the front oil seal, but every other one on the whole engine!

I've taken apart the oil pump and everything seems hunky-dory there so i'm suspecting blow-by somehow pressurising the oil ways (apparently can happen on the t16 rover engine)

so... i've got a new block, funky 86.4mm pistons with anti-detonation domes within the dish, std stroke pauter forged rods, piper 270cams, ported head, thermal inlet and exhaust "plates", the inlet "plate" is 6mm thick with integrated rubber O rings so can't really call it a gasket!

This should bring it out to 2086cc from 1994cc , but i need to get a replacement turbo as the oil pressure popped the turbo seals too!

limpabit 6th February 2009 16:04

Nice spec.

I know of a T25 and a VW K03S going spare.:)

But you may want a slightly bigger turbo, to make use of that engine.:)

chrislandy 9th February 2009 07:50

i've got a t25/t3 stage 4 hybrid from AET (andy nicholls - apparently good for 320bhp) which needs a rebuild since the engine blew but depending on how much it costs. I'm not sure what the largest turbo I can fit in will be but eventually it'll be in the range of a gt28rs or gt3071, thats unless I go for a new manifold then I can fit anything I want then. I might fit a tubular N/A manifold and move the turbo behind the engine - but thats for another day/year

limpabit 9th February 2009 08:03

If it's the same Andy Nicolls I've heard about, the he has built the most powerful and fastest Rover T16. (700 BHP if I remember correctly). So know's his onions as far as the Rover engine goes.

Have you upgraded your gearbox berings?

chrislandy 9th February 2009 08:08

The one and the same...

not yet i think, can't afford it with the other mods i'm doing.

I had the gearbox rebuild 5 years ago with new bearings, shafts and gears but I can't remember whether they were uprated or not.

I'm not sure how long the gearbox will last but it's time as well as money at the moment - need it finished and registered before the summer cut-off for non registered SVA'd cars AND I want it on the road for late spring / summer anyway

limpabit 9th February 2009 08:13

Good luck with the registration.

Just to give you a rough idea of price for the gearbox parts. It's about £200-250 for new bearings and seals.

Sneek peek at the engine build so far:

There's 2kg off the crank and 6 off the flywheel :D plus now got a T28/T34 hybrid turbo

Should be registered next month :)
