Maserati Replica on Ebay
Found this listing on ebay for a Maserati 450S replica.
Looks stunning, but similar to some of the cars we see on this forum which are in some cases just as nice. What caught my eye was the £ 129,950 price tag !! Ebay item : 222709870902 |
Ooh, that's a bit special though, even at that price. Now where's my chequebook... Damnit - can't find it. Guess I'll have to build one myself...
Doesn't appear to be road registered though which is a shame. |
It says it has a V5C though?
I'd not pay 130k for any car, even if I had that sort of cash. |
It is very nice , some lovely details ..... If you are looking to build something similar Towdie and need a body .............................
|
The listing says.
""Registered as a 1958 Maserati Historic Vehicle with a V5C document confirming this."" Very crude interior for the price tag, and it looks like some one removed the seat belts/harnesses  |
Looks good and the price is probably right for a good replica.

I like the interior , it looks correct , Maserati's are crude inside , functional ..I think it looks the part and some nice aluminium work ..
|
Obviously an appreciating classic- here for £82k...

Slightly more realistic price. Ideal for Chris & Dan.

Oh for some more space...
I bet that door aperture fits within the Z3 opening. Might need a bonnet bulge/scoop as well. |

I BET IT DOESN'T ....And I think fitting a bonnet scoop would be the least of your issues !! You'd need to change nearly everything ...easier to buy a Z300S from Tribute and start with that ... |

And of course it was. However the challenge of utilising the exact shape as a body swap is something I'd try if I had the space. It's probably best that I don't. |
I bet it would go on a Scimitar!
|
IT MIGHT YES ...With a few inches stretch the wheelbase would correct itself but you'd need to stretch it behind the door as the cockpit position would put you sat right on top of the rear 4 bar link top mount......track width needs altering too ...those 350s's are very narrow ...
So , yes it can work if quarterized ...it would make a great car .....it's actually nearer a Vitesse than a Scimitar dimensionally ... |
That depends which Scimitar you’re talking about :)

The SS1 is not too bad on the width ...but its 83'' wheelbase takes it out of the equation ... There will be a suitable donor I'm sure ...but I don't think it's Scimitar this time ...... |
SS1 width is spot on and I don’t know if 7” out of the wheelbase (behind the front wheel?) would kill the proportions?
|
I'd either go with a Herald/Vitesse chassis which is only 1/2" longer wheelbase than the 300 or, if you want to use a Scimitar SS1 chassis I'd change the styling to the 200si, which came with an 86.6" wheelbase -
http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...pspg6nx2cp.jpg The 200si is a prettier car imho and came with an inline 4 cylinder twin cam as standard, so it should be easier to get a suitable engine into the package - notice how the 200si bonnet is lower between the front wings than the 300 - making it look and sound more authentic. Here's a 200 and a 300 next to each other for comparison - http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...psifelzmnu.jpg Nice selection of pictures in the link below - http://www.maserati-alfieri.co.uk/alfieri279.htm |
Prefer the proportions of the 200 Mr T but the Maser wide mouthed frog look doesn’t work for me :)
Anything Herald/Vitesse/Spit based is out of the question for me as it needs to handle properly round a track. |
