Christmas present to myself 3.1 gte race cam fitted re-board 17k on the clock with all the mots to back up the mileage .seems a shame to give it the chop but it will make a nice 32 ford pick up rod when its finished

Hardy county hot rod body by any chance

Chris @tribute has a hot rod project on a scimitar chassis on ebay at the moment

andysharrock 22nd December 2015 18:29

yes and yes I have seen the one chris has no doors be a bugger to get in and out of with or without the roof. could just be me getting old but do think doors are a must these days.

Tribute Automotive 23rd December 2015 18:11

Your SE5 Scimitar's wheelbase is 5" shorter than the SE6 I have on ebay, but I am sure that won't be a problem for your grinder!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3814968996...84.m1555.l2649

Cutting doors in it isn't too much of an issue as we have a 32 coupe mould with the same length of door.

andysharrock 23rd December 2015 18:41

body gone

I need to do some repairs on the chassis so stretching it will not be a problem, I fancy going old school on the pickup bed and building one from wood add that to a 32 close cab with a roof should look sweet. need to find a good spares shop for brakes and poly bush kit if anyone knows of please pass it on.
Attachment 3060

Chris if you can give me a price for a full 32 close cab with doors bonnet a grill etc would be good cheers

Attachment 3065

time for a big glass of wine :amen:

Ollie 28th December 2015 12:01

Err....hate to be a killjoy....but lopping off the outriggers and making new ones to taper to the car, means the chassis has been altered, which means....IVA....
Just sayin'....

Attachment 3068

of course like all good things soon as its changed over on the documents small modifications could take place but I quite like the running board look

Ollie 29th December 2015 20:22

Could standard outriggers be hidden with running boards...maybe...?!
Sorry to put a damper on it, but hate to see you build it then have problems getting it legally on the road...
PS, hope you do build it, i love hot rods..

Ollie 29th December 2015 20:23

Haha you beat me to it....

WorldClassAccident 30th December 2015 08:41

My G46 build was on a SE5 but seems to have disappeared. It had details of the bushing kits and brake kits I used.

Check if yours is an SE5 or a SE5A as the suspension bushes are different. Also the starter motors are different as one uses pull engagement and one uses push. Unfortunately I can't remember which used which.

These guys are good for spares : http://www.grahamwalkerparts.co.uk/S...r%20re-man.htm

Have fun

Roadster 30th December 2015 12:45

Great looking rod
What style have you in mind for it Rat ,retro or Street rod

andysharrock 30th December 2015 18:36

ye wish it was mine unfortunately its just to show how I plan to cover the outriggers. the kit I have got on order from chris is pretty much the same and will look the same. old school all the way no mud guards and fancy a dab of rust effect paint. doing a full rebuild on the chassis running gear so it will be all new ready to run shame about the budget lol

andysharrock 6th January 2016 18:00

parts are stacking up

2 Attachment(s)
hoping most of my parts will be here this weekend to start the chassis suspension rebuild got just about everything but the shockers 500quid is the best I can find bummer. just spent 500 on the wheels been an expensive week ho well be worth it when its finished, and look mean

This might help with the out-rigger issues

VOSA have provided the following response to your questions;

Chassis.

Q) What is classed as chassis? Is it purely the outer longitudinal rails or are the crossmembers between these also a part of the chassis?

A) Chassis should be taken to include crossmembers.

Q) We know that cutting or shortening a chassis is classed as modification but is this relative to the vehicle wheelbase i.e. the chassis must remain uncut between the 2 axles but anything forward of front or aft of rear suspension mounts can be removed?

A) Chassis includes the full original length of the longitudinal members including to the front of the front axle and to the rear of the rear axle.

Q) Is it acceptable to remove bodymounts, which contribute no strength to the chassis when changing a body to a different style /make?

A) Yes, providing they are additional to and are not an integral part of the chassis structure.

This little statement has helped me in the past but be polite when dealing with DVLA and always remember they are never "wrong" just "mistaken" :flypig:

andysharrock 10th January 2016 18:44

that will come in useful tar, but as its all back in better than original the running boards will cover the out rigger. at least this way is one less thing for concern.

andysharrock 18th January 2016 16:23

They're going to look great. Can't wait to see them fitted.

andysharrock 31st January 2016 17:59

kit arrived

3 Attachment(s)
well its here as of Monday the 25th could not wait to get started but the delivery company put a nice big crack/hole in the roof propper knocked my duck off. got the cab sat on the chassis just to have a look to see what we are building.
Attachment 3151

I was thinking of doing a roof chop but on seeing it up close the windows would be a bit on the small side so I chopped 4inch off the bottom of the body. if you look at the 1st pic compared to the 2nd you can see how much closer the bonnet will sit to the engine .
Attachment 3153

this is the new size of the now chopped door stood against my daughters for Ka give you a idea just how low the cab will be.
Attachment 3152

Roadster 31st January 2016 18:14

looking good Andy
4" section would look great with a 4" roof cop but with a pick up cab its hard to find a driving position.

andysharrock 31st January 2016 18:14

need a bigger garage

5 Attachment(s)
cab floor now more or less in, stated work on the rear pick up bed I did not want to shorten the chassis so the new side panels got the chop. I cut them into three to fit the chassis and extended then by around 20inch putting a piece in each side of the wheel arch.
Attachment 3154
18mm WPB boards use for all the framing then raped in fibre glass I plan to tong and grove it to finish it off latter.
Attachment 3155
the underside now glassed and painted
Attachment 3156
and back up the right way
Attachment 3157

you can still see the panels I cut in but bit more work should blend in well
Attachment 3158
need to work on what wheel arches I am going to use and get them on order ready for next weekend. need to go back to work for a rest. lol

ned 31st January 2016 19:51

home made wheel arch

4 Attachment(s)
I bought some wheel arches for 17inch wheels thinking that would cover my wheels as they are 15 inch but no chance. I took a mould off one and cut it up to try a stretch it still no way.
Attachment 3193

the white one is a arch for up to 17inch the one behind is the sze it needs to be
Attachment 3194
here is one I made earlier looks a bit rough & but its only the shape I need I can tweak the rest latter.
Attachment 3195
Attachment 3196
well it should not stick once its dry I can trim it down to size and gel coat them fingers crossed should work.

andysharrock 7th February 2016 19:39

doors hung

4 Attachment(s)
good weekend doors are on ish, I have framed them out in WPB and the fibre glassed over the wood they stiffened up well. its only the inside of the door so looks are not important as long as it dose the job. The black is gel coat keep doing bits around the car when I have resin left over.

pick up bed makes for good storage with a lid on but need to find a lighter alternative to 18mm board its to heavy.
Attachment 3201
back door is fitted and the catch is on the inside so you need to lift the lid first I did not want them on show, waiting for the panel adhesive to dry
Attachment 3202
my gear stick head arrived
Attachment 3203

ned 8th February 2016 12:15

its taking shape quickly now , looking good, great minds think alike we have the black version of that gear knob on our white mx5

andysharrock 8th February 2016 17:23

cheers mate nice to here you still have the mx

andysharrock 8th February 2016 17:37

5 Attachment(s)
The wheel arch was a bugger to pull out but it came out and it looks sweet on. its got that relay oversized look but with the massive white wall under looks good.
I flattened it out filled it a little flattened it and drowned it in gel coat so it will flatten down just so cold taking time to dry out.
Attachment 3206
Attachment 3207
put the other side in ready for the morning, small one is the front thought while I was at it may as well take a mould off them
Attachment 3208
