SVA and registration prep

Hi everyone.

Just doing a bit of homework for hopefully the near future.

Getting a bit lost and the prcedures to follow. Is there a step by step guide?

For example.

For SVA, is there any forms to fill out? If so are they downloadable?

How do you book the SVA? Just by calling the local SVA centre?

I think you have to get an inspection to check donor components before registration.

For registration, is there a downloadable form? If it makes a difference, I'm going for the donor registration.

Cheers

John

Hiya Limpabit,

Don't know if this site will help you, looks like you have to do a VIC (vehicle identity check) by the DVLA and they tell you if it needs an ESVA. Almost certainly, as they are only another one of Gordons Agencies of Extraction.

BTW. The SVA inspectors are only private companies (subbies) working for the government, as are MOT stations. They are not VOSA or DVLA.

Best o' luck out there

Geeze if they could not complicate things enough. They go and change the complicated.:)

So does that mean, at the moment, my donor has not been written off (post 7th April 2003). Does this mean I will get a "q" plate?

I was hoping that once the kit car is ready, they seamlessly transfered the registration doc over from the donor to the Marlin.

Just reading this.

I had a horrible thought.

My engine stamp is behind the turbo. When the inspector comes, will he require me to remove the turbo to inspect the engine number?:scared:

Hi Limpabit
Yes the sva form is downloadable from www.vosa.gov.uk follow link to forms, you need the SVA1 form, To book your test you need to send you completed application form to Swansea, address is on the form, along with your fee,
You wont get the donor reg if you haven't used the chassis of the donor car in your build and to get a build up inspection booked contact your local DVLA office and arrange an appointment. HTH
Mark.
P.S Sorry DJH but the testers do work for VOSA(formerly Vehicle Inspectorate)

Hiya Mapps

I wouldn't have posted it if it was a load of b*ll*ocks:der:
SVA testers are APPROVED by V.O.S.A. (formally vehicle inspectorate)
Although they love you to think that way (gives them power:icon_confused: )

They are employed by private limited companies contracted to VOSA

Thanks for your reply everyone.

That's changed a lot then. I'm building the 5EXI with what I thought was the intention on using the donor reg. I thought that two major components (say engine and gearbox) was all that was needed. Not the donor chassis.:faint2:

:icon_confused: That's what I've read everywhere. 2 major components from the donor to keep the plate, there's a specific list of items such as engine, gearbox, axles etc.

Hi all,
I'm only going by the experience I had at Notts, I was issued with the donor reg number, and when the log book came it stated the original MGB as the make of vehicle. When I returned it explaining the error, they told me I will be, and have been, issued with an age related number as I hadn't used the original chassis even though I had used everything else including engine, gearbox, front axle, rear axle, instruments, wipers etc etc.
They perhaps have different rules in different areas, who know's

Cheers Mark. That's ok. I read you wrong. I thought you mean't you need the "physical" chassis of the donor to get age related reg.

Ah so it is still the same then. Use engine and box and get age related reg. But have Rover, BMW, Sierra on the log book as the car.

Registration

I have registered my marlin 5exi using donor log book as proof of age of parts and was issued with age related number. My log book states vehicle as Marlin 5exi. I thought kit cars that were previously resistered with donor log book descriptions were no longer legal?

Also, once the SVA is passed, do you still need to get an MOT for an age related reg?

holgate86 26th February 2007 18:09

mot

I didn't John and have retaxed after first year with no requirement, it falls into new car category of 3 years for first test.

Regards Brian

Cheers Brian.:biggrin1:

Always wondered why there would be an MOT after ther SVA.
