Anyone 'refurbed' the suspension?

I am getting some clunking from the front end which I suspect is worn sway bar bushings.

I noticed there was a fair bit of surface rust on the suspension when I bled the brakes are the weekend and the other suspensions bushings weren't looking great.

I was thinking of removing, cleaning, POR15ing and re-bushing the suspension. Paint and bushings seem easy enough to buy but...

...does anyone have any experience of actually doing this?

I used POR15 when I was working on the G46 and it seemed to work well, despite the cost. Unfortunately I had to sell it before I could tell if it stopped all rust for 20 years.

For the bushings I saw Powerflex came in at £493 but Strongflex were just £161. Given that I won't track the car and quite like a bit of lean and slide through the corners I might just save myself a few quid there.

Please share your experience, thoughts, advice and general bullshit*.

*please let me know if it is a bullshit post as I have NO IDEA what I am doing.

Have you become American WCA?

This side of the Atlantic we say bush, not bushing. Anti roll bar not sway bar.

In my experience (not Z3), it's a pretty horrible job with rusted bolts and bushes refusing to budge without fire. Worth it in the long run..
If you go onto ebay there are people selling rebushed suspension, they have done the nasty job with big machines so you don't have to.

If you're talking Z3 I have purchased a pair of front control arms together with rear bush (lollipops) and arb drop links. All have new bushes in ready to go. It's being done by a mate in the trade this week so I'll let you know how I get on.

I have a 2.2 donor that currently has a bit of a tramlining problem at the moment

I'm going coilovers too as I want to lower mine a bit. Especially at the front,

Dave

No, but I have spent some time Googling this stuff and that seems to be mostly in American.

If you're talking Z3
Yes I am. Interested in your results.

I found a full set of bushes for £161 but the idea of replacing the suspension components with new bushes fitted is tempting. need to compare the costs/efforts

Oh dear, another of my Round Tuit jobs exposed.

I have a large brown box in the garage containing a "FRONT SUSPENSION WISHBONE CONTROL ARM KIT for BMW E36 3 SERIES 318 323 325 Z3".

It has all those bits with bushes ready fitted- OK rubber not poly but that probably suits my driving requirements.

I'll be watching this thread with interest.
