The return of the centre mounted clock!

More discrete than mine was I think

Danny_HUFC 10th October 2015 12:15

I really think more needs to be done with the interior on these SWB's a dash swap woth older clocks is a must!

a big scary monster 14th October 2015 20:33

Whilst reading about peoples ideas for the dash I had an annoying niggle in my mind then when Danny said dash swap I realised what it was.Nissan had already done it.
1992 Nissan micra http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=625
1992 Nissan figaro
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=626[/IMG]
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=626 Same floor pan, probably same bulk head same year of manufacture, very simple design looks brilliant I like the CD player buttons. I think a fibre glass dash top and facia could and should be made by tribute. I am having problems posting pics they are showing on mine so I have added the top link too? Can anyone see them? Ed

Mister Towed 15th October 2015 07:08

Couldn't get the links to work, but here are some images of the K11 Micra dash and the Figaro dash -

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...psy3py15lz.jpg

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6ithv7kk.jpg

Agree about the style of the Figaro dash, something similar would look right in a SWB imho.

a big scary monster 15th October 2015 08:56

Thanks Mr Towed, I can see them on mine I even put both links from the cp picture folder up? Very strange.
My pictures where very similar just with an older style Micra dash.its a very simple style and also the leather clad dash top is consistent with my mission to try and get everyone to do a bit of upholstery work as I find it so enjoyable.il try some pictures on this post.Ed
Nissan's finished redash.

What they started with
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=625[/IMG]
Now I'm not saying to fit a Figaro dash although I like it, I am just pointing out what is possible once the original is lifted out and you get your head around the nest of wiring. I can picture a similar dash top and facia coupled with the modified centre console many have achieved. That stereo you bought towed would not look out of place or a hidden remote controlled one like scotties. The Dash top and console could be trimmed in matching fabric.
If anyone wants anything stitching get in touch post me some patterns and I will have a stab. Ed.

Mister Towed 15th October 2015 09:59

Your images now work ABSM.

As a Nissan fan I should've asked which generation of Micra your dash picture was from, I foolishly assumed it'd be from a K11. As I'm sure we all know, 1992 was the change-over year between the K10 and K11 models... :nerd:

a big scary monster 15th October 2015 10:33

Of course we all know that, many is the evening I spend reciting Micra part numbers, In fact you would have to be in the he who is only stupid club to pick the wrong one,(see mr towed on the road thread).
I didn't know that and its a bit of a massive presumption on my part that the Figaro is the same floor pan? I picked that as they where both 1992 car photos and the steering wheel to scuttle height looks closer. Believe it or not only yesterday i was talking about just how many fantastic cars Nissan have designed and yet they kind of fly under the radar. I also like the scargo. Ed

casamolino 17th October 2015 12:52

Good afternoon at the time that Chris built my car he was using Alfa 156 door handles connected by a Tribute designed mechanism to link to the Z3 door lock (same as on Bob`s car *Hurnleft*) , although it worked reasonably on my car it did seize on 2 occasions and never really gave full confidence .
The latest choice is to use a Mini door handle with the standard Z3 handle fitted with a small plate attached as per (Andy`s car *Ericholm*) .
To convert my car to enable the Mini door handles to be fitted I have bought 2 replacement doors £25, 2 door handles £34.95 and 2 door locks £35 .

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...9/DSCF1619.jpg

I have replaced a Z3 door previously and did not want to do it again , so I cut the required section out of the new doors (which the door handles fit to) and those sections will be bolted onto my existing doors .

If anybody need 2 Z3 doors with large oblong holes in them please get in touch! thanks Geoff .

Good evening not sure if I have posted this already but my car will be Oxford Blue (4546) http://www.llewellyn-ryland.co.uk/standardrange.html ,
thanks Geoff .

Paul L 23rd December 2015 15:30

Very nice.

hurnleft 23rd December 2015 16:12

That looks lovely Geoff, I look forward to seeing your 'build up' pictures.

What a great Christmas present to yourself.

All the best, Bob.

Triumph Special 23rd December 2015 17:03

Wonderful! The colour looks really good on it - enjoy!

Tribute Automotive 23rd December 2015 18:16

Hi Geoff. Nearly there now.

y cymro 23rd December 2015 20:51

That looks very nice Geoff.

froggyman 23rd December 2015 23:12

Looking great, look forward to seeing it built up. Are you going to fit a headlining? I would be interested to see how if you are.

Danny_HUFC 24th December 2015 07:40

Nice shade of blue. Is it a modern day colour or a classic colour?

ned 24th December 2015 12:10

Nice colour , look forward to see the end product.

Good morning Froggyman , I fitted the headlining myself after getting the built car back from Chris , I ended up making two attempts , first time I covered all the headlining with glue , but this gave a large area to fix at the same time! (not my best plan) , for my second attempt I glued about one quarter of the headlining fixed that then glued another quarter and so on . As somebody else has mentioned it would be much easier to fix the headlining before the body is fixed down , I should say that I had previously fixed sound deadening to the roof to try and reduce the noise of sitting in a fibreglass shell .

Danny ref the paint , it has probably come out rather lighter than I expected but actually to my eyes it looks period! which is what I wanted , thanks Geoff .

Slide 37 shows the pair of single exhausts like mine!

Most the others show pairs of twin exhausts.

Good slideshow

casamolino 28th December 2015 09:53

Good morning all , there has been a great deal of comment on the Nubodi thread ref my 250SWB , I should say that when I delivered the car to Richard at Nubodi any problems that were pictured showing the door skins were down to me , for some background , Chris built my car and at that time the process was to use Alfa 156 door handles , it was difficult to come up with a mechanism to make a 156 door handle work efficiently with the BMW lock .
A 250SWB builder(sorry don't know which) worked out that a "Classic" Mini door handle to could be used to provide a better solution , I replaced my 156 door handles with the Mini ones (not a straight forward task) , this meant that my door skins were on and off more times than a (insert your own statement) , and so after numerous efforts I had two functioning locks , but was so fed up that the position of the door skins took a back seat , OK I accept that was not a very good reason for not trying harder but Hay Ho .
I had already booked the car into Nubodi and so I new that Richard would do a much better job at sorting the skins out .
I agree with the comments about working problems through but I also know where my limitations are , sorry for the long post , Geoff .

Thank you for clarifying that Geoff.

SWB Door skin location and fixing has been an issue for some, so we will be incorporating these captive studs into the door skins of the red hardtop that we are currently putting together:

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...pseuwtida4.jpg

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...pszdsnuavo.jpg

If these do the job properly we will incorporate them into all future SWB kits.

Jaguartvr 1st January 2016 18:21

Would you have a link to the captive studs?
I have a project that they would be perfect for.
Thanks

How were they held on before then? Surely not just self tappers?

Jaguartvr 1st January 2016 19:11

Many thanks for the link

Always nice to see small changes that make for a better quality job. Should save time for the self-builder too.

As Tribute kits have no build manuals, whichever way the builder preferred.

I will post some of the captive studs to Richard for your build Free Of Charge. The same goes for any other previous customers who require them (please PM me).

Nubodi Automotive 14th January 2016 08:07

Just an update, Geoff is collecting his car today, so thought you all might like a preview. Hope he's pleased.

It looks great Geoff, you'll enjoy your ride home as you'll be in the coolest car on the road.

I look forward to seeing progress with your interior as you may have ideas I can 'borrow'.

Cheers, Bob.

smash 14th January 2016 08:12

Wow. Seriously, by anyone's standards that is a stunning drop of paint. Fantastic work.

We are going to build a red one for a customer. He has a healthy budget so should be a real nice one! Can't start it till March though as we have three to cars to build before then.

y cymro 14th January 2016 13:43

Youve done a nice job Richard, Geoff will be absolutely chuffed with that.

Nubodi Automotive 14th January 2016 15:37

Thanks for the great comments.

Unfortunately Geoff broke down on the way home. I mentioned to him that his water pump was noisy, which he knew about but didn't quite make it.

Adds to the authenticity of the experience of driving a classic...

casamolino 15th January 2016 13:41

Good afternoon all , before I recount yesterdays story , some thanks are in order , first off Chris and Dan at Tribute for turning my dream into reality , then all those I have spoken to via the Private Message service , thanks also to everyone who has taken the time to read my thread and to add their thought and suggestions , and last but not least Richard at Nubodi for his fantastic work on the body and for arranging the Spray Job , those photos as good as they are don't do the finished job justice , I could not be more pleased .
Right yesterday it was all going so well driving up the M4 to the A34 turn off and getting loads of admiring looks which I am 99% certain were for the car and not the driver! I stopped at a BP garage about 2 miles before the Junct for the M40 and after filling up walked back to the car to see a pool of water underneath with more water dripping down , there is a Little Chef there so I parked up in their car park and called Green Flag at 14:00 , a mechanic turned up at 17:00 to confirm my diagnosis (water pump knackered) , the recovery truck turned up at 19:00 to take me home (so I thought) but he did not have enough time left , the options were a courtesy car or "relayed" via 2 or 3 changes North . Neither option was what I wanted , I ended up with the courtesy car and my "baby has been delivered this morning . Am working away all next week so car booked in with local guy , so from next weekend the interior work will start , thanks Geoff .

Nubodi Automotive 15th January 2016 14:29

Thank you for the praise.

A lesson to be learnt here perhaps..always go with the AA or Rac not green flag. I know its a few bob cheaper but....

Also that lump in your back tyre could have come from a ratchet strap being too tight on a recovery in the past. I had a Sunbeam tiger transported from where I bought it to home and they knackered all four tyres by overtightening the ratchet securing straps. It can break the strands in the side walls. Might be worth checking all the tyres now?

Paul L 15th January 2016 20:53

casamolino - Really pleased to see how well your car has turned out Geoff.

Your dream has turned into my favourite Tribute kit.

So I'm glad to be able to finally add photos of your car to the Useful Info thread.

Hope you get the water pump fixed ASAP and get back out there enjoying the car.

Good luck, Paul. :)
