All guesses welcome!

Does anyone want to hazard a guess as to the weight differance between rover 1.8 k series and honda type r engines??

I know and was quite surprised

Well not sure of weights.

But I would thought the type R engine weights nearly as much as the T series. The K series I would have thought being a lot lighter.

The reason for this, when Dan had the type R engine, it took three to lift and move it. Same for the T series turbo engine.

Good guess?

I think from memory that a K-series is about 80kg, a k20a2 about 150kg.

Rover k-series only 15kg lighter than type r engine!

I was told this when I bought my seats from the lotus specialist that does the honda conversions but was dubious but it has since been discussed on seloc and has now been properly weighed, link below read bottom of page

Gives corner and total kerb weights very interesting

Baffled sump looks interesting - I've been wondering about one of those.....

yeah, something that I have thought about aswell as they are quite cheap, I have been quoted £190 and straight forward to fit

I am also considering the lightened flywheel as this almost completly eliminates engine inertia

there maybe a 15kg difference between cars, but in my opinion no way is the Civic engine only 15kg lighter than the K-Series. I've moved both engines around the garage and that civic engine is one heavy lump compared to the K-Series.
I can only assume they have lightened the car in some other way.

Hi Dan, thats not what they say if you read the full page!
I would be surprised if the most reputable company in britain for the link up conversion would lie. I dont think they would gain credibility by doing so

ps your engine looks quite a bit different now

Don't tell me you've stuck a supercharger on it or something.

Don't know why the civic engine felt loads heavier then. Maybe I'd been out on the P**s the night before trying to move it.. :)

craig 6th March 2007 18:23

No , no supercharger yet! stripped all anciliaries and covers including rocker cover and cleaned the lot looks new. Rocker cover completely stripped of all powder coat and now a different colour, also sprayed the engine and manifold covers

What is surpising, is that the difference is so small, given the Honda box has an extra gear, and is quite a heavy unit - certainly feels heavier than a modern VAG 5-speed box, and VAG gear is typically quite heavy.
