And i'll probably have the same power, maybe even a bit more.
Obvious start is the rear frame.
Then a cross brace at the rear.
But rolling road will help identify.

John's car didn't have doors did it, and it was the earlier square section rear?

From checking the photos of my car on track, nothing looks odd under full beans with 888s on. I wonder if the small amount of extra bracing is helping my car, or if with another 80-100bhp it'd also bend to a noticeable level.

Managed to get all pipes and leaks sorted today.

So run her up to temp. A lot of crap in the engine. So just a matter fill, empty,fill.... Still not finished. but getting cleaner.

Drive shafts and clutch slave next. Needs bleeding. But won't be for a month now.:(

Hi John.

Only back on Sunday, 6/9/09. Felt bad not getting anything done. Was temped to go out Sunday afteroon and have a play. But Ian (Merlinman) had a birthday do in the afternoon and felt knackered. Jet lag. No excuse I know!

But looking at putting the driveshafts together (gaiters etc) this weekend and hopefully fitting them. This will then mean car is ready for the exhaust to be fitted. Funds and weather permitting, looking hopefully at the end of the month to trailer car there.

Plenty of work to be getting on with.
As above, driveshafts. Fit reverse light switch and fill box with oil.
Recon clutch slave cylinder as it needs bleeding anyway. Fit modded accelerator cable. Needs a modded bracket.
Refit interior and battery tray.
Fix gremlins with electrics. Speedo rises with revs! Think it's due to me using existing VW wiring that I thought was isolated.
Install variable resistor inline for temp gauge (VW and Rover are not compatable with each other).

Got a little update. Driveshafts in. Having trouble with the clutch at the minute. Hoping it's just an adjustment at the pedal. But not had a chance to look at it.

Exhaust made and fitted by Zorstec.:biggrin1:

Similar design as before.. Could not decide on what why to go with the exhaust. Liked the original design so kept with that. Requirments: 3" straight through, quite for track use, free flowing & bigger outlets than original. Got manifold headers made while I was there as well.:biggrin1:

Good work John. Looks like a quality bit of workmanship.

Am I understanding correctly that you got the manifold re-made too? What are you plans for Mot testing? Your donor was 1992, so you need a cat for mot? Is the manifold braced to the block, to take the load out of the header to manifold plate junction?

The smoke looks like massive amounts of unburnt fuel. Is the maf sensor getting a true manifold pressure feed?

Hi John.

I ended up getting the manifold completly remade, only using the flanges from the one I had origionally. It's not braced in any way. They did look at bracing it, but decided not to. I will ask them why. But it's under a lifetime warranty, so can send it back if any problems occur.

I'm hoping I've not made a costly mistake. But I've spoken to a couple of Mot stations, before I got the exhaust made. Don't need the CAT. I did not need it for the SVA either as the reg was 2 months before the required date. Fingers crossed.

I've had quite a bit of problems with the plugs getting coated with fuel. I was hoping it was the o2 sensor not being wired in yet. I will check the maf line to see if it's blocked. It's quite a length at the minute the pipe. Not sure if that would make a difference. Also still in the process of draining/filling, so CTS Might not be getting a true reading until water has circulated to it correctly. Or may even be faulty.

Also have on my log book, the emissions as 3.5% CO. So looks like a non CAT test for MOT. :)

Just wondering how a modern engine like the VAG will do without the cat. Should pass no problem (maybe not at the minute!) with 3.5%.

It's looking good mate!

I know it's a diff engine but I was surprised when I got my sva done on the k20 with an open sports cat it flew through and the examiner said it would have passed (emissions) without one! Although he would have failed it due to the fact it's a requirement!

Hi Craig.

Not far to go now. Just need to sort clutch before it moves for the first time under it's own steam. Lots more little jobs to do before I have boost though.

Found out the new windscreen is cracked.:frusty:

I know what probably happened. In haste in getting the car ready, one of the screws used to hold down the windscreen surround, touch the windscreen on tightening.

Bloody tiger sealed it in as well. Going to be fun. Will leave this until last now though and car is on the road.

When I did mine, the tester said if it could pass the BET then it didn't need a cat as it met the emissions test 0.5CO 200HC @2k and 0.3%CO idle

Looking good John, how long before the first propper outing? If the plugs are fouling it probably just needs tuning as you are using a programable ecu

Hi Chris.

Not long hopefully.

Need to sort out clutch (not engaging at the minute after bleeding etc). Think it's the adjustment on the pedal. Then mount battery tray. Then hopefully go for a drive without boost.

Then need to sort out mounting the chargecooler rad, pipe it up, then have low boost until mapping (hopefully over Christmas time'ish).
