StoneLeigh pics
Sorry if you look at this thread expecting to see them, i am stuck away at work at the moment and hoped you guys lucky enough to meet up at Stoneleigh would post some pics to tide me over till I get home,
I need my Sammio fix and the forum has been a bit quiet this weekend... Pops! |
Not Sammio unfortunately, but this is what our area might look like next year ?

Lovely car, i had wanted one of these but not any more. Any pics of the G46 and the Cordite?
|
Mmmmm
Tlrtone, the top picture looks a lot of old cobra's, and as for the colour, is that the sickly sad girly colour that BMW do their mini in? Still at least your car will be more reliable than a BMW Mini.
|
Saturday? as those fields looked different on the Sunday, did both days, got there and wished I'd took Skippy on the way home Sunday glad I hadn't, we've been out in the rain but good grief!
|
AndyP85 took a load of photos but only a couple of the Cordite so here they are:

Doors! We don't need no stinking doors! :)
VERY Nice! Seeing it painted and finished "externally" really does make all the difference well done to Gary and Mike for getting it there! |
....and those hinges are superb.
Haven't seen anything quite like them. |
I've seen some nice ones like that for Alvis, Nike.
|
Aren't they Moggie boot lid hinges? :spy:
|
AndyP57 - Thanks for posting the Cordite photos.

I think that is just a coloured gel coat! ( It was still in the mould when I popped into the factory ) I think Gary wanted to show what the "standard" finish would look like "out of the box" so to speak. But agree with you it looks great. Cheers, Paul. :) |
Here you go, a few more pictures of the Cordite. It was too wet to take anything outside on Monday
http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSC_0154.jpg The bonnet buckle as Sam (wifey) is looking to make something similar (but better!) http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0156-1.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0157-1.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0158-1.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0160-1.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0162-1.jpg and finally with my build assistant! http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0164-1.jpg |
Ash i was there when you were talking to Garry
I chatted to Mike for a bit and everyone was busy so i will intriduce myself next time. My wife is already a build widow and considers shows as just another excuse to bore her with cars. Maybe the wives will start their own forum. I got a couple of shots of the Cordite- http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...507_134927.jpg http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...dster010-3.jpg i think from listening to comments about it - some got it and had the vision to see a finished car- our kind of people. And then there were the others - who want the kits to be by the number and the instructions to tell every move. They looked but did not see the potential. The show was a wash out - quite literally but i made a couple of important purchases and i managed to get another coat of paint on the roadster before i left - 8am. The neighbours think im mad - maybe i am. |
Thanks for the pics everyone. Its good to see the Cordite in its nearly finished form. Could not make it as had to work abroad over the weekend.
(in a Gary stylee) WELL DONE GARY FOR GETTING IT DONE AND UP TO STONELEIGH ! Nice one! Nick. Ps the kid in the pics made us laugh alot! |
Seanick, wheres your thread? any updates yet? I was hoping to get some joinery lessons.

So, in a nutshell...no thread yet! Cheers, Nick No lessons, but heres some sort of joinery I made a few years ago.....(really getting the hang of pic uploads now!) http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...orrisfront.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...morrisrear.jpg Still going! |
Hi Seanick. If you're worried about axle tuck induced oversteer there are several ways you can alleviate those symptoms:
A number of Spyder builders have converted their Herald/Vitesse rear end to the Spitfire IV/1500 swing spring set-up; Using a Spitfire IV or 1500 as a Cordite donor will give you the swing-spring back end as standard anyway; A Mk2 Vitesse donor will come with double-jointed Rotoflex rear driveshafts; Or, like mine, lowering a swing-axle Herald or Vitesse by around 90mm means that under hard cornering when the weight comes off one side the wheel reaches the end of its travel before it gets anywhere near tucking under. In the pic below I've jacked up one side but both wheels are off the ground :) http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...vidpics236.jpg Anyway, if you're the kind of guy who enjoys building/driving an Arrow I'm sure the Sammio bug will bite soon... Oh, and just noticed that in this picture it's kind of simulating a hard left corner where the off-side wheel would actually be under full load rather than dangling as it is but the attitude of the nearside wheel is critical as that's the one that would be in danger of tucking under, and, as you can see, it's almost vertical to the ground at full extension so no tuck under. |
I was looking through the photos that I had taken at stoneleigh and found this little beauty
http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/...1/IMG_0201.jpg When I first saw a sammio my thoughts were that it would look great in a brushed metal finish. Im not sure how it could be acheived but I think that it would be stunning. |
