Kobra Interior? advice please? exhaust?
I wonder if anyone out there is especially proud of the interior of their Kobra build?
Could you perhaps advise on a number of points? 1. Is it worth it or is the Z3 so nice comfy and perfect that it should just be cleaned up and left? 2. Its essential... easy... and looks amazing with a little effort? 3. Its just about worth the effort but damn hard fiddly work? 4. etc etc Perhaps you could post of picture please of the end result or the best youve seen for a Kobra conversion? Anyone used the stuff that Nubdi or Classic Coach works sell ... is it wise? good ? great? etc? and while Im typing... exhaust... something that looks good and sounds amazing? one pipe either side... (not the Dax external sort) in proper Cobra style? suggestions? Any help or pointers very gratefully received. As always gang... many many thanks for your time... looking forwards to meeting you... :eusa_pray: |
Hi,
There are not a huge number of images of Kobra builds online that I know of. My personal Kobra has the Z3 interior with the exception of a MOMO sterling wheel and gear knob. The negative in that change is that the wheel I went for is smaller than the original and so the instruments not so easy to see. I am looking at replacing the OEM seats with those from an MGTF but not done that yet. That change though I’m hoping to get a little lower in the car. Will help with the driving of the car and more comfortable. I’m not keen on the std Z3 seats so happy to swap them out. I’m not bothered about a replacement dash at present as it looks like a lot of work. I believe ClassicCoachWorks are developing a Cobra esqe dash for the Kobra but not sure timeframes or details. I will keep a watching brief on it as they come available. Not a huge amount of help but happy to offer my view. Dave |
Thanks for that Dave.
Really appreciate your input and advice. I’ll find a way (I hope) of getting z3 reliability with cobra looks and sounds. Work in progress of course. R |
I know it’s not a cobra but I’m doing a Z3 to 250 swb and and in the middle of doing the interior. My 3 had a horrible brown seats, dash and carpet. I have dyed the carpet, painted the dash and am now modifying to suit my needs. I want a very useable car with comfort and mod Vons to drive round Europe. I have installed rover 75 seats as they are sooo comfy and look classic. I am putting in a double din pioneer radio thingy with reversing camera, blue tooth, apple play and dab radio. Am going to hide it when on show but will be clearly visible most of the time.
Mine is clearly not going to be a close replica of the Ferrari but will be very useable |
Thanks for the comments also.
Did you create new subframes or attach gbr Rover 75 seats to Z3 frames ? Thanks Dave |
Yes welded brackets on to the floor pan
I’m only 5 foot 6 and seats are great. If you are much taller the rover seat probably won’t suit |

I bought new yellow seatbelts and mounted them on to the existing mounts on the seat brackets

Welded new brackets on to the rover runners

Got it- thanks.
The Rover 75 seats are too large for my requirements, I'm looking for a Cobra-type bucket so will need a different seat belt mounting solution. |
They will look nice
Good luck |
