Just need to tap the shaft and circumcise the end with a hacksaw, easy job and really makes a difference to the feel of the gearbox. Would suit a Cobra as well as a 250, in fact, any Z3 kit. Only takes 30 minutes to fit.

Morning Steve , was it kindly supplied by Justin at Grassbank? i have just fitted one and it makes the gear-change much nicer , Geoff .

So you cannot have as long a screw as usual with the new one?

This one is a copy of a DNA gearknob.
I ordered one from Grassbanks which was nice but they seem to be anodized with a polished section on the centre of the knob to give it "patina" I wasn't keen on this but managed to sand and polish it. Quite a job because of the anodising. I ordered a second for my other build but this one didn't have the thread, just a drilled out sleeve and a grub screw, Easier to fit but not as stable and I don't want to bond it on. I tried sanding and polishing this one to get rid of the "patina" but it has proved to be much harder to get a good finish. Hence the DNA version, not anodized so easy to polish to a mirror finish and has the thread which makes it more stable. OI can get more if anyone wants one or you can get the anodized version from Grassbanks.

I think Smash had a black plastic resin one in his 250, maybe not so cold to the touch, nothing worse than a cold knob first thing in the morning.....

A friend has a 60's Mercedes convertible that has an ivory coloured steering wheel and matching gear lever, looks stunning and would look great in a 250.
Haven't been able to source a decent ivory steering wheel otherwise it would be m first choice.

I bought a nice shiny one from Europa in polished aluminium. I cut the stick down a couple of inches, made an aluminium sleeve to match the diameters and it was secured with a single grub screw. Worked for me !
