How important is 'originality' to you/us?

I was looking at genuine Ferrari parts online a few days ago - some staggering prices for what were/are often Fiat parts eg side repeaters £150 (without bulbs!)
So is a 'period looking' part acceptable when other features eg windscreen can't be replicated with a base vehicle monocoque that includes the windscreen and surround? I rather like the Mondeo mk4 side repeaters as an alternative for example (similar shape to Ferrari, with a 'chrome vent' surround.) :argue:

Ferrari Testarossa wing mirror glass has the same Fiat part number as the Fiat 132 I believe, no Ferrari stickers but very different prices depending on which dealer you buy it from. Only the receipt will show any difference in 'originality'.

Does this apply to the plastic kit cars we drive though?

There are sellers out there offering copy parts such as lights. I recently bought original style side repeaters for my 275 project, from an ebay seller based in Italy for about £60 inc P&P. Same goes for the circular rear lights, I found another seller in Italy who had them in stock at a reasonable price, about £120 inc.

Most of the parts can be found for reasonable money, just depends how much of a compromise you are happy with on your finished car. You can do things with the windscreen to make it look more period, look at the Grassbank cars.
