Pilgrim Sumo engine problem

Hi,
Can anyone throw any light onto an engine problem i am having wih a mates Sumo? it has a rover v8 engine that wont start if you touch the throttle and when it's running it will die if you touch the throttle until it's warm, then it hesitates higher up the rev range but will go through it and run ok? when you rev it up it seems to suck too much air to start and wants to stop before picking up and revving?
Any advice would be a great halp thanks.

Sounds like it's too lean. I guess its a carburated engine. How about your throttle pump or jet. It maybe blocked.

Hi,

Yes i thought it was too lean, it apparently was spot on but has developed this symptom, it's injection too with an air flow meter???

sounds like temprature sensor giving ECU wrong voltage reading

Cheers, i did wonder if it could be a cold start sensor problem or maybe worth adjusting the fuelling on the air flow meter? just wondered if anyone else had experienced the same problem?

I've just run the engine to check the resistance on the cold start sensor, when i unplugged it the engine ran very rich and stopped as if it was over fuelling far too much, could it be that it doesn't fuel enough when it's connected because it's faulty but still over fuel when it's disconnected?

Check all the hoses for any air leaks, the Hotwire and Flapper EFI systems really don't like even a pin hole (including the breather hoses from the rocker covers)

Cheers i'll inspect them, it runs sweet when it's warm?

Hello all,

Right then, here are the latest results!! I found no air leaks at all and the fuel pressure is 36 at idle with the vacuum off, also someone had suggested to the owner that it was an ecu fault so the ecu was replaced with one exactly the same, there was a slight difference but it wasn't cured, then an ecu from a v8 landrover was fitted, the car started and ran perfectly but was overfuelling like mad with black smoke from the exhausts, this makes me believe that it can only be a fuel problem but what next????
