I have the twin of that tacho in my Marlin, it even mists up the same. I fitted electronic ignition and it continued to work fine. Are you certain you haven't disturbed the piggy back...

If it's some time since it was fitted, it's more than likely that the driven plate is stuck to the flywheel. Wedge the pedal down with a long stick (in neutral!) and leave the beast ticking over....

That circular (ish) switch in front of the gearstick seems to be in a redundant position. Have you tried a continuity test across the terminals with the 'box in each gear? Be interesting to find out...

I think one is for limiting overdrive selection to third and top, the other is the reversing light switch. Maybe.
