Staff Pass
Don't get me wrong, there is definitely no such thing as a free lunch, as volunteering was bloody hard work.
( Especially, as the sun was on the back of my neck for all three of my shifts, which involved standing for up to 7 hours. )
However, once I started to get the hang of where I could go, I did turn up in a variety of interesting places.
Staff could get a cheap breakfast in a hidden area behind one of the TV screens that were HUGE!
This was the pre-race assembly area.
I thought I'd found the perfect track side viewing spot...
But this area had to be cleared before each of the races started.
So, I moved upstairs, next to the time keepers hut, a few feet from the finish line.
This gave me a great view of the start of the day.
Each race was formally announced.
The 'Lollipop Ladies' were below me.
Looking back, I could also see down into the assembly area.
I assume this building on the other side of the track was for Corporate Hospitality, but what a great view.
This 'butler' was carrying a box of cigars, which were handed out to the top three drivers in each race.
I had a great view of the grid and noticed this car had a couple of panels missing.
( The mechanics were still working on it as it arrived on the grid. )
Note:
You can see where the gear lever is tucked into the side, by the driver's leg.
