My doors have a sculptured inner panel which is glassed in.
I have no idea what all the shapes are for and as I can't get to the back to mount anything on them without cutting the panel out their purpose is a bit of a mystery to me
I think I will have to produce a door card to mount the handle, glove box and other bits to, somewhere along the lines of yours.
